Chiquinho (novel)
''Chiquinho'' is a Capeverdean novel written by Baltasar Lopes da Silva in 1936 and published in 1947. The story is named after the nickname of the island of São Nicolau in which the characters originated. The probability of the literary work is the most common in Cape Verde, it marked the beginning of the typical literature in Cape Verde along with local themes in Creole culture. Along with ''Claridade'', Baltazar Lopes participated with Manuel Lopes and Jorge Barbosa with founded members of the review and the name was the movement in the main activists of the same. Jørgen Carling (born 11 November 1974, in Oslo) is a Norwegian researcher specializing on international migration. He holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Oslo and is Research Professor of Migration and Transnationalism Studies. Orlando Ribeiro (geographer)
Orlando Ribeiro (16 February 1911 – 17 November 1997) was a Portuguese geographer and historian. Biography Orlando Ribeiro was born in Lisbon, Portugal. Ribeiro devoted his life to the teaching and research of geography and is often described as one of the main reformers of this science in Portugal. He graduated in Geography and History in 1932, and completed his doctorate at the University of Lisbon in 1935. Between 1937 and 1940 (during World War II), he lived in Paris and worked at the Sorbonne University, alongside March Bloch, Emmanuel de Martonne and A. Demangeon. The archipelago of Cape Verde has been struck by a series of drought-related famines between the 1580s and the 1950s. During these periods of drought and famine, tens of thousands of inhabitants died from starvation and diseases. Jorge Vera-Cruz Barbosa (25 May 1902 – 6 January 1971) was a Cape Verdean poet and writer. He collaborated in various reviews and Portuguese and Cape Verdean journals. The publication of his poetry anthology ''Arquipélago'' (''Archipelago'') in 1935 marked the beginning of Cape Verdean poetry. He was, along with Baltazar Lopes da Silva and Manuel Lopes, one of the three founders of the literary journal '' Claridade'' ("Clarity") in 1936, which marked the beginning of modern Cape Verdean literature.
