''Chino'' (Italian: ''Valdez, il mezzosangue'', UK theatrical title: ''Valdez the Half Breed'') is a 1973 Italian Western film starring Charles Bronson, Jill Ireland, Marcel Bozzuffi, and Vincent Van Patten. The original English language title shown at the beginning of the film was ''The Valdez Horses'', the same title that the novel on which the movie is based. It was an Italian-Spanish-French co-production filmed in Spain, with Italian and French funding. Plot Chino Valdez (Bronson) is a lonely horse breeder, whose life is thrown into turmoil when a young runaway (Van Patten) turns up at his door looking for work and, later, he falls in love with a beautiful woman (Ireland) whose brother (Bozzuffi) hates him. Cast Production Director John Sturges was unhappy with the finished film and considered the casting of Jill Ireland a fatal mistake. Duilio Coletti
Duilio Coletti (28 December 1906 – 22 May 1999) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. He directed 29 films between 1934 and 1977. Career Born in Penne, Abruzzo, he took a degree in medicine and surgery and practiced the profession for a short time. He entered the film industry as a screenwriter and assistant director in early 1930s, then made his directorial debut in 1935 with ''Pierpin''. Coletti specialized in films of great spectacular impact and was particularly appreciated in the direction of action movies. His film ''Submarine Attack'' was entered into the 4th Berlin International Film Festival. He was a member of the jury at the 8th Berlin International Film Festival. Fausto Tozzi (29 October 1921 – 10 December 1978) was an Italian film actor and screenwriter. He appeared in 70 films between 1951 and 1978. He wrote the script for ''The Defeated Victor'', which was entered into the 9th Berlin International Film Festival. He also directed one film, '' Trastevere''. Life and career Born in Rome, after graduating in accountancy Tozzi made several humble jobs, including peddler and bird taxidermist. He was introduced in the cinema industry by Sergio Amidei, for whom he worked as a stenographer. Through Amidei, Tozzi met Renato Castellani, with whom he collaborated as a screenwriter for '' Professor, My Son'' (1946) and ''Under the Sun of Rome'' (1948, based on a Tozzi's original story).
