Music Of China
Music of China refers to the music of the Chinese people, which may be the music of the Han Chinese in the course of Chinese history as well as ethnic minorities in today's China. It also includes music produced by people of Chinese origin in some territories outside mainland China using traditional Chinese instruments or in the Chinese language. It includes forms from the traditional and modern, Western inspired, commercial popular music, folk, art, and classical forms, and innovative combinations of them. Documents and archaeological artifacts from early Chinese civilization show a well-developed musical culture as early as the Zhou dynasty (1122 BC – 256 BC) that set the tone for the continual development of Chinese musicology in following dynasties. Shengying Gu
Shengying Gu (; 19371967) was a prominent Chinese classical concert pianist. In 1957, she won the gold medal at the 6th World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow and in 1958, the women's piano award at the 14th Geneva International Music Competition. Suffering under the Cultural Revolution, when she was just 29 years old she committed suicide on 31January 1967. In 2019, a commemorative wall on Yuyuan Road in Shanghai was inaugurated to revive memories of the years she lived there. Lan Shui
Lan Shui (Chinese: 水蓝, born 1957) is a Chinese-American conductor. He was the Music Director of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra from 1997 to 2019. He has retired as Music Director on 26 January 2019, and was given the title of Conductor Laureate by chairman of the SSO Mr Goh Yew Lin. Born in Hangzhou, China, Shui is the son of a doctor and a banker. He began his musical studies on violin, but the Cultural Revolution interrupted his violin studies, and a subsequent football injury ended his dreams of becoming a violinist. At the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, he focused on conducting and composition, and worked regularly with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra. William Tete Luo
William Tete Luo (, born March 9, 2007) is a 16-year-old piano prodigy. Born in China, he started his piano studies when he was four and a half years old. Soon, after two months' practise, he was invited to perform Christmas songs on Christmas Eve in a church in Beijing. At six years old, he received his first award, the First Prize from the Primary and Middle School Students Art Festival in Haidian District, Beijing, when he became a student there. At seven years old, he won the Second Prize of the Hope Cup Piano Competition. Terence Lam
Terence Lam Ka-him (; born 3 September 1991) is a Hong Kong composer, singer-songwriter, and record producer. Lam had a musical interest at a young age, having started to learn playing the piano when he was four or five years old. He attended the Lingnan University, where he received the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Contemporary English Studies in 2013. During his university studies, Lam participated in several college singing competitions, where he met the singer-songwriter Chet Lam who brought him into the music industry. In 2014, he became a composer, signing a contract for Warner Chappell Music Hong Kong where at one point he was composing one song a week. Sunny Lam
Sunny Lam (born 1 June 1986; ) is a Hong Kong singer-songwriter and YouTuber. Lam is known for rewriting lyrics to the tune of existing well-known songs as satirical political commentary during the 2014 Hong Kong protests and the 2019–20 Hong Kong protests. Lam first received attention when he wrote and sang satirical songs during the 2014 Hong Kong protests. He used to work in a marketing position but quit his job in March 2019 to start an independent recording studio. During the 2019–20 Hong Kong protests, Lam satirised the Hong Kong Police Force and supporters of the government by writing and performing additional rewritten songs. Larissa Lam is a singer, songwriter, Chinese American talk show host, music executive, filmmaker, and producer from Diamond Bar, California. She won the 2015 Hollywood Music in Media Award in the Best Dance Song category for her song "I Feel Alive". She was named Best Vocalist of the Month by SingerUniverse Magazine in November 2015. George Lam
George Lam Tsz-Cheung (born 12 October 1947), also known professionally by his surname Lam, is a Hong Kong-based veteran Cantopop singer, singer-songwriter, music producer and actor, with a career that has so far lasted more than four decades. Lam produces most of his own albums, writes many of his own songs, occasionally writes for other artists, and covers other people's songs. Aaron Kwok
Aaron Kwok Fu-shing (born 26 October 1965) is a Hong Kong singer, dancer and actor. Active since the 1980s, Kwok is known as one of the "Four Heavenly Kings" of Hong Kong pop music. Jin Au-Yeung (; born June 4, 1982), known professionally as MC Jin, is an American rapper, songwriter, actor and comedian of Chinese descent. Jin is notable for being the first Asian American solo rapper to be signed to a major record label in the United States. Ayi Jihu
Ayi Jihu (; born 1984) is a Chinese singer of Yi ethnicity, signed to British company Shlepp Records. Early life Ayi Jihu grew up in Leibo County in the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan. Dance was one of her early hobbies. Her parents were farmers. Her father died when she was just five or six, leaving Ayi to help her mother with farm chores, mainly raising ducks and chickens.
