''Yinchuan'' (175) is a Type 052D destroyer of the People's Liberation Army Navy. She was commissioned on 12 July 2016. Development and design The basic ship type and layout of the ''Type 052D'' guided-missile destroyer is the same as that of the Type 052C destroyer, but compared to the earlier Type 052C destroyer, the Type 052D superstructure has a larger inclination angle and provides better stealth performance. Pennant Number
In the Royal Navy and other navies of Europe and the Commonwealth of Nations, ships are identified by pennant number (an internationalisation of ''pendant number'', which it was called before 1948). Historically, naval ships flew a flag that identified a flotilla or type of vessel. For example, the Royal Navy used a red burgee for torpedo boats and a pennant with an H for torpedo boat destroyers. Adding a number to the type-identifying flag uniquely identified each ship. In the current system, a letter prefix, called a ''flag superior'', identifies the type of ship, and numerical suffix, called a flag inferior, uniquely identifies an individual ship. Not all pennant numbers have a flag superior. People's Liberation Army Navy
The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN; ), also known as the People's Navy, Chinese Navy, or PLA Navy, is the maritime service branch of the People's Liberation Army. ''Hengyang'' (568) is a Type 054A frigate of the People's Liberation Army Navy. She was commissioned on 30 June 2008. Development and design The Type 054A carries HQ-16 medium-range air defence missiles and anti-submarine missiles in a vertical launching system (VLS) system. The HQ-16 has a range of up to 50 km, with superior range and engagement angles to the Type 054's HQ-7. The Type 054A's VLS uses a hot launch method; a shared common exhaust system is sited between the two rows of rectangular launching tubes. Ngong Shuen Chau Naval Base () is part of the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison and small naval base on Stonecutters Island (Ngong Shuen Chau), Hong Kong. It is home to the South Sea Fleet Squadron # 38081 and sub-base to the naval squadron of the South Sea Fleet. The area surrounding the base is off limits to civilian ship traffic. History The naval base was built by the contractors during the handover period in 1996–1997 and one of a few military installations that was not transferred from the British.
