The 1996 Chinese Jia-A League (known as Marlboro Jia-A League for sponsorship reasons) was the third season of professional association football and the 35th top-tier overall league season held in China. Starting on April 14th 1996 and ending on October 27th 1996 saw Dalian Wanda win their second championship title. Chinese Jia-A League
The National Football Jia A League (simplified Chinese, commonly known as Jia-A, was the highest tier of professional football in the People's Republic of China, during 1994 through 2003, operating under the auspices of the Chinese Football Association. The Chinese Professional Football League was established in 1994. Under the direct supervision of the CFA's Professional League Committee, this nationwide league was divided into Divisions 1 and 2. Division 1 was subdivided into Divisions 1A and 1B, Jia A and Jia B, Jia being the Chinese word for top or first. Division 2 was and still is subdivided into regional divisions. Cao Xiandong
Cao Xiandong (Chinese:曹限东 born 19 August 1968) is a Chinese football coach and a former international midfielder. In his career, he represented Beijing Guoan where he won two Chinese FA Cups along with Qingdao Etsong Hainiu and Beijing Kuanli. Internationally he played for the Chinese team that took part in the 1996 Asian Cup. Ma Mingyu
Ma Mingyu (; born 4 February 1970, in Chongqing, Sichuan) is a former Chinese International football player. He represented Sichuan Quanxing throughout the majority of his career, having several spells with them. He also represented Guangdong Hongyuan and Italian Serie A side Perugia. While internationally he would play in the 1996 AFC Asian Cup, 2000 AFC Asian Cup and captain China's campaign during the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Playing career Ma Mingyu predominantly played for top tier Chinese club Sichuan Guancheng where he spent several spells with them throughout his football career. Fan Zhiyi
Fan Zhiyi (; born 6 November 1969) is a Chinese coach and former international footballer. He played as a defender for Shanghai Shenhua, Crystal Palace, Dundee, Shanghai COSCO Huili, Cardiff City, Buler Rangers and Shanghai Zobon. He was considered a trailblazer in his native homeland when Sun Jihai and he became the first two Chinese footballers to play in the English leagues, joining Crystal Palace in 1998. Internationally, he would go on to play with the Chinese national team in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He has since gone on to become a football coach and had his first stint as manager at Shanghai East Asia. Peng Weiguo
Peng Weiguo (; born October 3, 1971 in Guangzhou) is a Chinese football coach and a former international player. As a player he represented Guangzhou Apollo, Chongqing Longxin and Shenzhen Pingan while internationally he represented the Chinese national team at the 1992 and 1996 AFC Asian Cup. After retiring he moved into coaching and became the assistant coach at Shenzhen Pingan before gaining his first Head coaching position at Shanghai Stars. Wu Chengying
Wu Chengying (; Pinyin: ''Wú Chéngyīng''; born 21 April 1975 in Shanghai) is a Chinese former international football player who spent the majority of his career at Shanghai Shenhua where he won the league and Chinese FA Cup before moving to Shanghai International for a then Chinese record fee of 13,000,000 RMB in 2003. Internationally he was a member of the Chinese national team where he participated in the 1996 and 2000 AFC Asian Cup as well also the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Zhang Enhua
Zhang Enhua (; 28 April 1973 – 29 April 2021) was a Chinese professional football player and coach. As a player, he was a defender from 1994 to 2006 and represented Dalian Wanda FC, Grimsby Town, Tianjin Teda and South China while internationally he was a participant at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Club career Dalian Wanda Zhang Enhua began his professional football career when he joined his local native Chinese football team Dalian Wanda FC at the beginning of the 1994 league season. Xu Hong
Xu Hong (; born May 14, 1968, in Dalian) is a retired Chinese football player and football manager. He was most recently the manager of Chinese Super League team Dalian Aerbin F.C. for 63 days before he had to resign on February 19, 2013, because it was discovered by the Chinese Football Association that he manipulated a match while as a manager at Sichuan Guancheng and was given a 5-year suspension from all football activity. Playing career Xu Hong rose to prominence in the 1994 league season with Dalian Wanda FC, when they won the first professional Chinese Jia-A League title. With Dalian, he would win several more top-tier league titles in his career in a dominant Dalian team. Wei Qun
Wei Qun ( born 10 February 1971 in Zigong, Sichuan) is a Chinese football coach and a former player who spent the majority of his career with Sichuan Quanxing where he was a defender while internationally he represented China in the 1996 Asian Cup. Playing career Wei Qun would start his career playing for the various youth teams for his hometown football team Sichuan before he was called up to the Chinese under-23 football team who happened to call themselves the Chinese Olympic team and were allowed to take part in the 1991 Chinese league campaign where they finished seventh. After an unsuccessful Olympics qualification campaign he returned to Sichuan to start his senior football career however it almost ended before it began when on May 1, 1993, he had an altercation with several men and was stabbed several times. Han Wenhai
Han Wenhai (; born 28 January 1971) is a former Chinese football goalkeeper, and the current goalkeeping coach of China League Two club Shenzhen Pengcheng. The Chinese football goalkeeper Han Wenxia is his sister. Biography Han Wenhai began his professional football career with Dalian Shide and was one of the first goalkeepers in China to accept the guidance of British coaches to aid players achieve professionalism. This would greatly help him rise to prominence during the 1996 league season when he established himself as Dalian's first-choice goalkeeper and aided the team to win the league title.
