List Of IACC Yachts
Sail numbers for the 'new generation' International America's Cup Class (IACC) yachts are issued on a sequential numerical basis. The number is then prefixed by the abbreviation for the country. If a yacht is subsequently sold to a team in a different country then the number remains unchanged but the prefix changes to reflect the new country of ownership. Race reports tend to use team names rather than the boat names and in most cases a boat does not have a unique name. So it has become difficult to know which actual boat raced in a particular event without reference to the results list published by the race organisers. The following list is part of ongoing research to identify particular boats and key points in their history. List Abbreviations: AC – ''America's Cup'', LVC – ''Louis Vuitton Cup'', R-R – '' Round-Robin''. Yacht Racing
Yacht racing is a Sailing (sport), sailing sport involving sailing yachts and larger sailboats, as distinguished from dinghy racing, which involves open boats. It is composed of multiple yachts, in direct competition, racing around a course marked by buoys or other fixed navigational devices or racing longer distances across open water from point-to-point. It can involve a series of races with buoy racing or multiple legs when point-to-point racing. History Yachting, that is, recreational boating, is very old, as exemplified in the ancient poem Catullus 4: The yacht you see there, friends, says that she's been The fastest piece of timber ever seen; She swears that once she could have overhauled All rival boats, whether the challenge called For racing under canvas or with oars. (trans. James Michie) "Yacht" is referred to as deriving from either Norwegian ("jagt"), Middle Low German ("jaght") or from the Dutch word jacht, which means "a swift light vessel of war, commerce or p ...

America's Cup
The America's Cup, informally known as the Auld Mug, is a trophy awarded in the sport of sailing. It is the oldest international competition still operating in any sport. America's Cup match races are held between two sailing yachts: one from the yacht club that currently holds the trophy (known as the defender) and the other from the yacht club that is challenging for the cup (the challenger). Matches are held several years apart on dates agreed between the defender and the challenger. There is no fixed schedule, but the races have generally been held every three to four years. The most recent America's Cup match took place in March 2021. The cup was originally known as the 'R.Y.S. £100 Cup', awarded in 1851 by the British Royal Yacht Squadron for a race around the Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom. The winning yacht was a schooner called '' America'', owned by a syndicate of members from the New York Yacht Club (NYYC). In 1857, the syndicate permanently donated the tr ...

Louis Vuitton Pacific Series
The Louis Vuitton Pacific Series was a match race regatta in America's Cup Class yachts in Auckland, New Zealand during January and February 2009. Racing started on 30 January. The Louis Vuitton Pacific Series was organised in association with the New Zealand Government, Emirates Team New Zealand, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Auckland City and Skycity Entertainment Group. Bruno Troublé was Louis Vuitton's organizer and spokesperson for the Series. The creation of the event was in response to the legal battle surrounding the America's Cup yachting competition at the time. Because of the long delays from the legal action, and the fact that the 33rd America's Cup became a Deed of Gift match without a defender or challenger selection series, the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series was established as a competition for other America's Cup racing syndicates. Ten syndicates took part in the regatta, which used four International America's Cup Class boats loaned to the regatta by T ...
