China At The 2004 Summer Paralympics
China competed at the 2004 Summer Paralympics, held in Athens, Greece. China topped the medal table for the first time, becoming the first Asian country to top the medal count with more gold medals, more silver medals, and more medals overall than any other nation. This was an improvement from its previous best performance, where they had ranked sixth on the medal tally at the 2000 Summer Paralympics. China also broke the record for the most gold medals, the most silvers medals, the most bronze medals and the most medal overall won by Asian countries at a single Summer Paralympics, which was previously set by South Korea in 1988 with 40 gold, 35 silver and 19 bronze. The China Administration of Sports for Persons with Disabilities (CASPD, zh, 中国残疾人体育运动管理中心) is a public institution of the Central Government of China, and is affiliated with the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF). It is estimated that there are 85 million people with disabilities in China. The CASPD is responsible for the administration of disability sports in China. Its work includes developing sporting standards, carrying out sports research, undertaking sports drug testing, and directing sports training programs. Chun Hua Li
Li Chunhua () is a Paralympian athlete from China competing mainly in category F37-38 discus throw events. Li was born in Haimen. At the age of four, she contracted poliomyelitis which resulted in the loss of function in her right arm and leg. Later that year her father died, and when she was six her mother abandoned her in order to remarry. Her uncle then took her in and ensured she attended school until completing primary education. After her primary school graduation, she went to live with her grandmother in Shanghai where educational opportunities were better. She began training for the Paralympics in 2001. Zhang Hai Yuan (born June 12, 1977) is a Chinese track and field athlete.
