2022 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series – Women's Tour
The 2022 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series – Women's tour was the inaugural season of the second-tier global competition for women's national rugby sevens teams. It was played as a single tournament on 12–14 August 2022 in Santiago, Chile at the Estadio Santa Laura with twelve teams competing. The tournament was the qualifying event for the World Rugby Sevens Series, with the winner gaining promotion as a core team for the 2022–23 season. Rugby Sevens At The 2023 Pan American Games
Rugby sevens competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile were held between November 3 and 4, 2023 at the Estadio Municipal de La Pintana in the commune of La Pintana. A total of eight men's and eight women's teams (each consisting up to 12 athletes) competed in each tournament. This means a total of 192 athletes were scheduled to compete. Qualification Eight men's teams and eight women's teams qualified to compete at the games in each tournament. The host nation (Chile) received automatic qualification in both tournaments, along with seven other teams. Chile National Rugby Sevens Team
The Chile national rugby sevens team is a minor national sevens side. In the 2008 USA Sevens they lost to Australia 24-14 in the Shield finals. In preparation for the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens they toured Fiji, a month before the World Cup. Chile was invited to the 2021 World Rugby Sevens Series that was held in Canada, in Vancouver and Edmonton. They have participated at two Olympic repechage tournaments, in 2016 and 2020, but were unsuccessful to qualify for the Olympics both times. Rugby union in Chile is a fairly popular sport. The Chilean Rugby Federation was founded on 4 May 1953 and governs the sport in Chile. Their statutes and regulations were officialized at 16 December 1963. It is affiliated to the Olympic Committee of Chile, the Confederación Sudamericana de Rugby, FIRA and World Rugby. In July 2022 the men's national team defeated the USA to qualify for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, the first time the country has qualified for the competition. Following this the team reached an all time high world ranking of 21.
