The Chiesetta della Banderuola (Little church of the windvane) is a small, Roman Catholic Marian shrine chapel within the town limits of Porto Recanati, province of Macerata, region of Marche, Italy. History The little brick chapel shrine has a peculiar history, linked to the resurgence of Marian devotions in the mid-19th century. The present church, although appearing older, was erected in 184 using a design by the architect Pietro Pasquali. Tradition held that this locale was the Italian transitory port of arrival in 1294 for the miraculous transportation of the '' Santa Casa di Loreto'', to which the small church now bears a resemblance. Documents site that by 1467, neighbors had erected a wall to memorialize the event. The area was called ''Bandirola'' or ''Banderuola'', since it appeared to have windvane to signal to pilgrims arriving by sea of the road to Loreto. Porto Recanati () is a town with some 12,500 inhabitants in the province of Macerata, in the Marche region. of central Italy. It is the northeast coastal town of the province. It was made an independent town on 15 January 1893, when, due to a Decree signed by King Umberto I of Italy, Porto Recanati's coastal hamlets were separated from Recanati. The communal territory is completely plain, and it is located near the Mount Conero. The town's seabord, defined north by the mouth of Musone river, extends itself for about two km south, beyond the mouth of Potenza river. The central part of Porto Recanati's is basically formed by gravel beaches and steep sea with deep bottom also a few steps from sea shore, unlike nearby towns Potenza Picena and Civitanova Marche. The Basilica della Santa Casa ( en, Basilica of the Holy House) is a Marian shrine in Loreto, in the Marches, Italy. The basilica is known for enshrining the house in which the Blessed Virgin Mary is believed by some Catholics to have lived. Pious legends claim the same house was flown over by angelic beings from Nazareth to Tersatto (Trsat in Croatia), then to Recanati, before arriving at the current site. The basilica is also known for enshrining the Madonna and Child image of "Our Lady of Loreto". Pope Benedict XV designated the religious image as patroness of air passengers and auspicious travel on 24 March 1920. Pope Pius IX ( it, Pio IX, ''Pio Nono''; born Giovanni Maria Mastai Ferretti; 13 May 1792 – 7 February 1878) was head of the Catholic Church from 1846 to 1878, the longest verified papal reign.
