Chief Of The General Staff (Turkmenistan)
The Chief of the General Staff of Turkmen Armed Forces ( tk, Türkmenistanyň Ýaragly Güýçleriniň Baş ştabynyň başlygy, italic=yes) is the highest-ranking military officer in the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan, who is responsible for maintaining the operational command of the military and its three major branches. The Chief of the General Staff represents the entire Turkmen military and is in command of the leaders of the Turkmen National Guard, Turkmen Ground Forces, Turkmen Air Force, Turkmen Air Defense Forces, Turkmen Navy and the Turkmen Border Troops. The Ministry of Defense of Turkmenistan ( Turkmen: Türkmenistanyň Goranmak ministrligi) is a government agency under the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan which is the executive body in implementing defense policies in Turkmenistan. Lieutenant General Begench Atayevich Gundogdyev ( tk, Begenç Ataýewiç Gündogdyýew, russian: Бегенч Атаевич Гундогдыев) is a Turkmen general and politician who currently serves as the 10th Minister of Defense of Turkmenistan under President Serdar Berdimuhamedow. He previously served in this same position from 2011 to 2015, succeeding Yaylym Berdiyev. Biography Early career He was born in the city of Ashgabat in November 1976 to an ethnically Turkmen family. The president of Turkmenistan ( tk, Türkmenistanyň prezidenti), officially the president and chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, is the head of state and head of government of Turkmenistan. Annamurat Soltanovich Soltanov ( tk, Annamurat Soltanoviç Soltanov) was a Turkmen general who served as the first chief of the general staff of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan. Early life and career He was born in Mary Region in 1943. In 1961, he worked as a livestock specialist. He graduated from the Turkmen Agricultural Institute in 1969, and joined the Soviet Army that year. The ground forces include the 2nd, 3rd, 11th, and 22nd Motor Rifle Divisions as well as smaller units consisting of various types of troops.
