The Chief of Navy ( sv, Marinchef, MC) is the most senior appointment in the Swedish Navy. The position Chief of Navy was introduced in 1936 and the current form in 2014. History Until 1936 the Swedish monarch was the Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces and had formally maintained the Chief of the Navy position together with the Chief of the Military Office of the Minister of Defence in the Ministry of Defence, which is in fact maintained the position. The position of a single professional "Chief of the Navy" ( sv, Chefen för marinen, CM) was established in 1936 in accordance with the Defence Act of 1936. Rear Admiral Ewa Ann-Sofi Skoog Haslum née ''Skoog'' (born 26 March 1968) is a Swedish Navy officer. She currently serves as Chief of Navy. Early life Skoog was born on 26 March 1968 in Hov Parish, Kristianstad County, Sweden, and she grew up in Torekov. She attended the technical program in secondary school. Skoog Haslum began her military career in 1987 as a conscript enlisted radio telegraphist on board HSwMS ''Stockholm''. The Swedish Air Force ( sv, Svenska flygvapnet or just ) is the air force branch of the Swedish Armed Forces. History The Swedish Air Force was created on 1 July, 1926 when the aircraft units of the Army and Navy were merged. Because of the escalating international tension during the 1930s the Air Force was reorganized and expanded from four to seven squadrons. World War II When World War II broke out in 1939 further expansion was initiated and this substantial expansion was not finished until the end of the war. Although Sweden never entered the war, a large air force was considered necessary to ward off the threat of invasion and to resist pressure through military threats from the great powers. Fabian Tamm
Admiral Claës Fabian Tamm (13 November 1879 – 4 October 1955) was a Swedish Navy officer. He served as the Chief of the Navy from 1939 to 1945. Early life Tamm was born on 13 November 1879 in Film, Uppsala County, Sweden, the son of the Governor of Stockholm and cabinet minister, Baron Claës Gustaf Adolf Tamm and his wife Ebba (née Tersmeden). Career Tamm was commissioned as a naval officer with the rank of acting sub-lieutenant in the Swedish Navy in 1899 and was promoted to sub-lieutenant in 1901. Rear Admiral Jens Gunnar Peter Nykvist (born 23 August 1968) is a Swedish Navy officer. Nykvist senior commands include commanding officer of the 1st Submarine Flotilla and the Maritime Component Command. He served as the Chief of Navy from 2016 to 2020. Vice Admiral Anders Jan-Eric Törnqvist (born 9 October 1959) is a retired Swedish Navy officer. Before his retirement in 2020, he served as the Chief of Joint Operations of the Swedish Armed Forces from 2016 to 2020 and as Commandant General in Stockholm from 2019 to 2020. Vice Admiral Peter Esbjörn Nordbeck (born 19 July 1938) is a Swedish Navy officer. He was Chief of the Defence Staff from 1992 to 1993 and the Chief of Navy Command from 1994 to 1998. Early life Nordbeck was born on 19 July 1938 in Grängesberg, Sweden, the son of Stig Nordbeck and his wife Kerstin (née Froste). His father, an engineer, was employed by Gränges AB in Grängesberg in Dalarna at the time of Nordbeck's birth. Nordbeck has two siblings and two half-siblings. Maritime Museum (Stockholm)
The Maritime Museum ( sv, Sjöhistoriska museet) in Stockholm, Sweden is a museum for naval history, merchant shipping and shipbuilding. Located in the Gärdet section of the inner-city district Östermalm, the museum offers a panoramic view of the bay Djurgårdsbrunnsviken. The building was designed by architect Ragnar Östberg and built in 1933–36. Collections The museum houses about 900,000 photos, 50,000 objects and 45,000 drawings, all related to the sea, coast, ships and boats, past and present. A major part of the collection, the boats, are housed in Boat Hall 2 at Galärvarvet in Stockholm. The boat collection ranges from canoes to Skerry cruisers. The Swedish Army Museum ( sv, Armémuseum) is a museum of military history located in the district of Östermalm in Stockholm. It reopened in 2002 after a long period of closure, and was awarded the title of the best museum of Stockholm in 2005. In heraldry and heraldic vexillology, a blazon is a formal description of a coat of arms, flag or similar emblem, from which the reader can reconstruct the appropriate image.
