The Chief of Army ( sv, Arméchef, AC) is the most senior appointment in the Swedish Army. The position Chief of Army was introduced in 1937 and the current form in 2014. History In 1937, the staff agency "Chief of the Army" ( sv, Chefen för armén, CA) was created to lead the army in peace time. The CA would under the King in Council exercise the highest military leadership of the Land Defense ( sv, Lantförsvaret). At his side, the CA had an Army Staff to assist the CA in his duties. Before 1937 the Chief of the General Staff was considered to be the Chief of Army, but he was not usually to the rank of chief, but formally only the king's chief of staff in his capacity as Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces. The oldest general was chairman of the special preparatory body called the Generals Commission (''Generalskommissionen''). Major General Karl Lorentz Engelbrekt Engelbrektson (born 12 February 1962) is a senior Swedish Army officer and a former Force Commander of the Nordic Battlegroup (NBG). Lieutenant General Per Gustaf Sylvan (23 April 1875 – 19 September 1945) was a Swedish Army officer. He served as Chief of the Army from 1937 to 1940. Early life Sylvan was born on 23 April 1875 in Malmö, Sweden, the son of Ph.D. Per Gustaf Sylvan (1827–1903) and Tina Löfvengren (1844–1893). He was the brother of major general Ove Sylvan. Carl Eric Almgren
General Carl Eric Åke Almgren (4March 1913 – 20May 2001) was a Swedish Army officer. Almgren served as Chief of the Defence Staff from 1961 to 1967, military commander of the Eastern Military District (Milo Ö) from 1967 to 1969 and as the Chief of the Army from 1969 to 1976. Torsten Rapp
General Bo Torsten Rapp (20 April 1905 – 23 March 1993) was a Swedish Air Force officer. As the Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces from 1961 to 1970, he was the first Supreme Commander who did not come from the Swedish Army. Carl August Ehrensvärd (1892–1974)
General Count Carl August Ehrensvärd (3August 1892 – 24April 1974) was a Swedish Army officer. He was born in Karlskrona, and was son of the admiral and Minister for Naval Affairs, Carl August Ehrensvärd. Ehrensvärd left the Swedish Army in 1918 and joined the Finnish Army and saw action during the Finnish Civil War. Ehrensvärd rejoined the Swedish Army the same year and served until 1940 when he became general Ernst Linder's Chief of Staff during the Winter War as part of the Swedish Volunteer Corps.
