Chico Mall
Chico Marketplace, formerly Chico Mall, is an enclosed shopping mall in Chico, California. Opened in 1988, it features J. C. Penney and Dick's Sporting Goods as its anchor stores. History The mall opened in 1988. Its original anchor stores were Troutman's Emporium, Gottschalks, Longs Drugs, and Sears. Longs Drugs was soon converted to a J. C. Penney store, which moved from North Valley Plaza. As a result, Longs moved its store to Paradise. Upon opening, the mall had over 95 stores and cost more than $4 million to build. Following the bankruptcy and closing of the Troutman's store, it was converted to Dick's Sporting Goods in 2012. Emporium, more formally known as Troutman's Emporium, was a chain of department stores founded in 1955 by Dallas Troutman in North Bend, Oregon. After 1977, Emporium's headquarters was located in Eugene, Oregon. At its peak, Emporium operated at least 34 stores, in Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, California and Washington. Gottschalks (former NYSE ticker symbol GOT) was a middle-tier American department store that operated 58 department stores and three specialty apparel stores in six western states (California, Washington, Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Nevada); some locations ran as Harris-Gottschalks stores. Paradise, California
Paradise is a town in Butte County, California, United States in the Sierra Nevada foothills above the northeastern Sacramento Valley. As of the 2020 census, the town population was 4,764. On November 8, 2018, a major wildfire, the Camp Fire, destroyed most of Paradise and much of the adjacent communities of Magalia, Butte Creek Canyon, and Concow. After the Camp Fire, the population declined by more than 90%. In January 2019, the state of California reported 4,600 residents, and a door-to-door count in April 2019 found 2,034. The ''Chico Enterprise-Record'' is the daily newspaper of Chico, California. Also known as the E-R, the newspaper was first published in Bidwell Bar, California as the Butte Record in 1853 and is now part of the MediaNews Group corporation, who took control of the paper from Donrey in 1999. Donrey had owned the paper since March 14, 1983.
