Chicago Technology Academy
Chicago Tech Academy (Chicago Tech) is a high school in the Chicago University Village in Pilsen. Chicago Tech Opened in September 2009 as the city's first technology high school. The building was formerly Joseph Medill Elementary School. After being open for 5 years, the school was partnered with High Tech High in an attempt to stay open. Little Italy, Chicago
Little Italy, sometimes combined with University Village into one neighborhood, is on the Near West Side, Chicago, Near West Side of Chicago, Illinois. The current boundaries of Little Italy are Ashland Avenue on the west and Interstate 90/94 on the east, the Interstate 290 (Illinois), Eisenhower Expressway on the north and Roosevelt to the south. It lies between the east side of the University of Illinois at Chicago campus in the Illinois Medical District and the west side of the University of Illinois at Chicago campus. Lower West Side, Chicago
Lower West Side is a community area on the West Side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is three miles southwest of the Chicago Loop and its main neighborhood is Pilsen (). The Heart of Chicago is a neighborhood in the southwest corner of the Lower West Side. History In the late 19th century, Pilsen was inhabited by German, Polish, Italian, and Czech immigrants. Czech immigrants were the most prominent and named the district after Plzeň, the fourth largest city in what is now the Czech Republic. They replaced the Germans and Irish who had settled there before them, in the mid-nineteenth century. These German and Irish residents lived in poor conditions throughout the 1850s and ‘60s. The Pilsen area was overcrowded and suffered from flooding, lack of indoor plumbing, and illness. Project-based Learning
Project-based learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy that involves a dynamic classroom approach in which it is believed that students acquire a deeper knowledge through active exploration of real-world challenges and problems. Students learn about a subject by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to a complex question, challenge, or problem. It is a style of active learning and inquiry-based learning. PBL contrasts with paper-based, rote memorization, or teacher-led instruction that presents established facts or portrays a smooth path to knowledge by instead posing questions, problems or scenarios. The website provides ratings and comparison tools based on student growth, college readiness, equity, and test scores for public schools in the U.S. , the GreatSchools database contains information for more than 138,000 public, private, and charter schools in the United States. History GreatSchools was founded in 1998 as a school directory and parenting resource in Santa Clara County, with seed funding from New Schools Venture Fund.
