1995 Rugby World Cup
The 1995 Rugby World Cup was the third Rugby World Cup. It was hosted and won by South Africa, and was the first Rugby World Cup in which every match was held in one country. The World Cup was the first major sporting event to take place in South Africa following the end of apartheid. It was also the first World Cup in which South Africa was allowed to compete; the International Rugby Football Board (IRFB, now World Rugby) had only readmitted South Africa to international rugby in 1992, following negotiations to end apartheid. The World Cup was also the last major event of rugby union's amateur era; two months after the tournament, the IRFB opened the sport to professionalism. Paul Emerick
Paul Emerick (born January 24, 1980) is the head coach of the American Raptors in Glendale, Colorado. He was the defense and skills coach and the 2019 interim head coach for the Houston SaberCats of Major League Rugby. He was a former USA international rugby player. He played centre, fullback or wing for the USA Eagles and last played professionally for London Wasps Club Emerick was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa, and played his university rugby with the University of Northern Iowa Panthers. Philip Eloff
Philip Eloff (born 17 September 1978) is an American former rugby union centre. Eloff played for the United States national rugby union team from 2000 to 2007, earning 35 caps. Early life Eloff was born in Thabazimbi, South Africa. He went to college at Northeastern Illinois University and played his club rugby with the Chicago Lions of the Rugby Super League. Career Eloff scored 10 tries in his U.S. international career, ranking him second on the list of all-time U.S. try scorers at the time of his retirement (he has since fallen to fourth). Wilhelm Julius Heinrich Kahts (born 20 February 1947 in Pretoria, South Africa) is a former South African rugby union player. Playing career Kahts made his test debut for the Springboks on 31 May 1980 at Newlands in Cape Town against the touring British and Irish Lions team, captained by Bill Beaumont. He scored his first and only test try during his sixth test match and first at his home ground, Loftus Versveld, on 8 November 1980 against the touring French team. Kitch Christie
George Moir Christie, better known as Kitch Christie (31 January 1940 – 22 April 1998), was a South African rugby union coach best known for coaching the country's national team, the Springboks, to victory at the 1995 Rugby World Cup. He remained unbeaten during his tenure as Springbok rugby coach between 1994 and 1996, including leading the team to a then record 14 consecutive victories. In 2011, he was inducted posthumously into the IRB Hall of Fame, later subsumed into the World Rugby Hall of Fame. Paul McNaughton
Paul Peter Patrick McNaughton (18 November 1952 – November 2022) was an Irish rugby union, soccer and GAA player during the 1970s and 1980s. He was also manager of the Irish Rugby Team, a position he held from 2008 to 2011. He played rugby as a centre, with Leinster, Ireland, Chicago Lions, Los Angeles Rugby Club, Greystones and Wanderers.
