Chicago (poker Card Game)
The game was allegedly invented in an underground poker club at Hammarbykajen, Stockholm in Sweden owned by the Russian mafia. The game is a variation of the Swedish card game, Fem-kort. The poker-related card game called Chicago is one of the most popular card games in Finland today. Relying on the keeping of score instead of the placing of bets, it is suitable even for environments such as schools, where gambling is often prohibited. The game exists in countless versions, so here a (somewhat arbitrarily chosen) basic game will be followed by a number of possible variations. Fem-kort
Femkort ("Five Cards") is a classic Swedish card game for 3 to 8 players "with an unusual object", known since the 17th century, being mentioned in 1658 in Georg Stiernhielm's epic poem, ''Hercules'' (''Herkules'') as Fämkort.Stiernhielm (1658), line 154. It is traditionally played with some kind of bet. Cards The game is played with a standard 52-card French-suited pack usually of the Modern Swedish pattern. Early rules The following rules are given in an 1847 Swedish games compendium: Femkort may be played by any number of people. The aim is solely to win the last trick. Everyone places a set stake into the pot or pool before the deal. Each player then receives 5 cards, but no trump is turned. Whist is a classic English trick-taking card game which was widely played in the 18th and 19th centuries. Although the rules are simple, there is scope for strategic play. History Whist is a descendant of the 16th-century game of ''trump'' or ''ruff''. Whist replaced the popular variant of ''trump'' known as ruff and honours.
