Chiara Pierobon
Chiara Pierobon (21 January 1993 – 1 August 2015) was an Italian professional racing cyclist. She died from a suspected pulmonary embolism. Pierobon was travelling with her team to the Sparkassen Giro in Germany when she fell ill. Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a blockage of an pulmonary artery, artery in the lungs by a substance that has moved from elsewhere in the body through the bloodstream (embolism). Symptoms of a PE may include dyspnea, shortness of breath, chest pain particularly upon breathing in, and coughing up blood. Symptoms of a deep vein thrombosis, blood clot in the leg may also be present, such as a erythema, red, warm, swollen, and painful leg. The Sparkassen Giro Bochum is a road bicycle race which is annually held for both men's and women's around an urban circuit in the German city of Bochum, Germany.
