Chewton, Pennsylvania
Chewton is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 488 at the 2010 census. Geography Chewton is located in southern Lawrence County at (40.8976, -80.3184), in the northwestern part of Wayne Township. It sits on a bluff overlooking the east bank of the Beaver River. It is bordered across the river by the borough of Wampum. Chewton is south of New Castle, the county seat. Pennsylvania Route 288 passes through the southwestern side of the community, leading west across the Beaver River into Wampum and southeast to Ellwood City. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , of which , or 1.06%, are water. Chewton, Victoria
Chewton is a town in central Victoria, Australia in the Shire of Mount Alexander local government area, 116 kilometres north west of the state capital, Melbourne. At the 2016 census, Chewton had a population of 1313. History Prior to European settlement, the Chewton area was inhabited by the Dja Dja Wurrung Aboriginal people, part of the Kulin nation. The first European in the area was the explorer Major Thomas Mitchell on his way to discovering what he termed "Australia Felix" in 1836–37. Not long after, a sheep station was established by William Campbell, which incorporated the current townsite. Gold was discovered by shepherds on Dr Barker's sheep run at nearby Barkers Creek in 1851, spawning a large gold rush. Over 30,000 diggers arrived at Chewton within three months, soon followed by prospectors from around the world, including many Chinese. Chewton Keynsham () is a hamlet on the River Chew in the Chew Valley, Somerset, England. It is 7 miles from Bristol, 7 miles from Bath, and south of the centre of the town of Keynsham. The hamlet lies on the Monarch's Way long distance footpath. Government and politics Chewton Keynsham is part of the Farmborough Ward which is represented by one councillor on the Bath and North East Somerset unitary authority which has wider responsibilities for services such as education, refuse, tourism etc. The village is a part of the North East Somerset constituency. Prior to Brexit in 2020, it was part of the South West England constituency of the European Parliament. Chewton Mendip
Chewton Mendip is a village and civil parish in the Mendip district of Somerset, England. It is situated north of Wells, south of Bath and Bristol on the A39 very close to the A37. The village is in a valley on the Mendip Hills and is the source of the River Chew. The parish includes the hamlets of Bathway and Green Ore. History There were several lead mines and stone quarries in the parish. It is also the site of Attborough Swallet (also known as Red Quar Swallet), a cave which is unusual for a cave on the Mendip Hills in that it is not in limestone but instead in Dolomitic Conglomerate and Marl. The cave was first entered in 1992. There is a long barrow to the north of the village by . Excavation in 1946 revealed six Bronze Age barrows below the crest of the Mendips.
