Chester Robert Boak (June 19, 1935 – November 28, 1983) was an American professional baseball player who appeared in ten Major League Baseball games over two seasons — five contests for the Kansas City Athletics and five more for the expansion Washington Senators. A second baseman, he threw and batted right-handed and was listed at tall and . Biography Boak was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania. His pro career lasted for eight total seasons (1955–57; 1960–64). In 1960, after compiling 96 runs batted in in the Double-A Southern Association and being named all-star second-baseman, Boak was recalled by the Athletics in September. He started four games at second base, and collected two hits (both of them singles) in 13 at bats. Southern Association
The Southern Association was a higher-level minor league in American organized baseball from 1901 through 1961. For most of its existence, the Southern Association was two steps below the Major Leagues; it was graded Class A (1902–1935), Class A1 (1936–1945) and Class AA (1946–1961). Although the SA was known as the Southern League through 1919, the later Double-A Southern League was not descended from the Southern Association; the modern SL came into existence in 1964 as the successor to the original ''South Atlantic'' ("Sally") League. In baseball, batting average (BA) is determined by dividing a player's hits by their total at-bats. It is usually rounded to three decimal places and read without the decimal: A player with a batting average of .300 is "batting three-hundred". If necessary to break ties, batting averages could be taken beyond the .001 measurement. In this context, .001 is considered a "point", such that a .235 batter is 5 points higher than a .230 batter. 1960 Major League Baseball Expansion Draft
The 1960 MLB expansion draft was held by Major League Baseball on December 14, 1960, to fill the rosters of the Los Angeles Angels and the Washington Senators. The Angels and Senators (who later became the Texas Rangers) were new franchises that would enter the American League (AL) the following season as part of the 1961 Major League Baseball expansion. The Angels represented the AL's first team to be based on the West Coast of the United States, while the Senators would take the place of the league's original Washington Senators franchise that had moved to Minneapolis–Saint Paul as the Minnesota Twins after the season.
