Chester is a part of the Chester-Upland School District. The school serves the City of Chester, Chester Township, and Upland. In 2018–2019, the school had 994 pupils. History The first Chester High School building was erected in 1902. Extracurriculars The district offers a wide variety of clubs, activities and sports. Sports programs include; football, basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, baseball, tennis, track and club activities. This school has a long-standing tradition of Championship wins in basketball. Ronald Baxter Henry (August 7, 1936 – May 14, 2016) was an American professional baseball player. He was a catcher who spent one full season (1961) and part of another (1964) in Major League Baseball as a member of the Minnesota Twins. Born in Chester, Pennsylvania, he threw and batted right-handed, stood tall, and weighed . Henry's career lasted for 15 seasons (1954–68). The first seven were spent in the farm system of the Milwaukee Braves. Herman B. Harris (born December 1953) is an American former professional basketball player. Playing career Harris played basketball at Chester High School in his hometown of Chester, Pennsylvania. He was lightly recruited despite being one of the leading prospects of his college recruiting class, which Harris attributed to scouts avoiding the city of Chester and its high crime rate.
