Cheslie Corrinne Kryst (; April 28, 1991 – January 30, 2022) was an American television correspondent, model, and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss USA 2019. Kryst was also an attorney and had served as a correspondent for '' Extra'' from October 2019 until her death. For her work on ''Extra'', she was nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards. Early life and education Cheslie Corrinne Kryst was born on April 28, 1991 in Jackson, Michigan to an African-American mother and a Polish-American father. She had four brothers: Asa, Chandler, Jet, and Brooklyn; and a sister, Page. Her mother, April Simpkins, competed in pageantry and was crowned Mrs. North Carolina US when Kryst was a child. The family moved from Michigan to Charlotte, North Carolina, when Kryst was young, and later settled in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where Kryst attended Northwestern High School. Miss USA 2019
Miss USA 2019 was the 68th Miss USA pageant. It was held at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, on May 2, 2019. Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey served as hosts, while Lu Sierra served as commentator, all for the second consecutive time and was broadcast on Fox. Additionally, it featured performances from T-Pain and Nick Lachey. Sarah Rose Summers of Nebraska crowned her successor Cheslie Kryst of North Carolina at the end of the event. This was North Carolina's third time winning the Miss USA title, and the first title in 10 years. Kryst was the first non-consecutive African American to win the title and the third one in four years. Kryst represented the United States at Miss Universe 2019 and placed in the Top 10. Miss North Carolina USA
The Miss North Carolina USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state North Carolina in the Miss USA pageant. This state is part of the RPM Productions group since 1992. In 2005, Miss North Carolina USA Chelsea Cooley won the Miss USA crown and placed in the top 10 at Miss Universe. Cooley is the first former Miss North Carolina Teen USA to win the Miss title, although not the first to have competed at Miss Teen USA. The second Miss North Carolina Teen USA to win the Miss title was Erin O'Kelley in 2007. She went on to place in the top 15 at Miss USA 2007. Similar to the Miss Utah USA titleholders, both Cooley and Kelley placed at Miss USA, eclipsing their teen performances. Miss Universe 2019 was the 68th Miss Universe pageant, held at the Stage 1 of the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, United States on 8 December 2019. At the end of the event, Catriona Gray of the Philippines crowned Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa as Miss Universe 2019. It is South Africa's third win after 1978 and their recent victory in 2017. Asa Kryst (born May 25, 1993 in Jackson, Michigan) is an American professional association football, soccer player. Personal life Kryst is the younger brother of American television presenter and beauty pageant titleholder Cheslie Kryst, who was crowned Miss USA 2019 and passed away on January 30, 2022 from apparent suicide. Career College and amateur Kryst played college soccer at the University of South Carolina from 2011 to 2015, including a red-shirted year in 2014. While at college, Kryst also appeared for USL PDL clubs IMG Academy Bradenton and SC United Bantams. Professional Kryst signed with United Soccer League side Charlotte Independence on April 27, 2016.
