Cherry Grove, HO-1
Cherry Grove, located on property formerly called Fredericksburg, 400 acres patented by Orlando Griffith's oldest son Henry Griffith in 1750. Cherry Grove is a historic home and former plantation located at Woodbine, Howard County, Maryland, United States. The home is considered the seat of the Warfield family of Maryland. The multi-part house was built by Captain Benjamin Warfield starting after 1766 after acquiring a 550-acre land grant from Henry Griffith named "Fredericksburg". The complex includes a ca. 1798 log ground barn, an 1860-1890 frame wagon shed with corn crib, an early-20th century frame water tower, frame ground barn with cantilevered forebay, frame shed, frame dairy barn, concrete silo, concrete block dairy, and several frame shelter sheds. Woodbine is an unincorporated rural community in Howard and Carroll counties, Maryland, United States. It is part of the Baltimorean metropolitan area. It is located southeast of Frederick, west of Baltimore, north of Washington, D.C., and east of Mount Airy. The community was named for the woodbine plant, which grew in the community in fields and along riverbanks. Background Woodbine is located at the juncture of the Patapsco River, the B&O Railroad, and the road that runs north from Lisbon to Winfield on Liberty Road ( Maryland Route 26) and through to Westminster, Maryland. Oakdale Manor
Oakdale is a historic plantation located in Daisy, ( Woodbine) Howard County, Maryland, former home of Maryland Governor Edwin Warfield. Oakdale resides on a land grant surveyed by William Shipley in Feb 16, 1765 named "Fredericks Burgh". The land was patented in March 1765 by Henry Griffith and repatented as "Addition to Part of Fredericks Borough" Oakdale was built in 1838 by Albert Galltin Warfield, great grandson of Captain Benjamin Warfield of Cherry Grove and his wife Margret Gassaway Watkins. In 1891 Edwin Warfield moved to the 265 acre Oakdale Manor after the death of his father and expanded the building to over twenty rooms. Sunnyside (Woodbine, Maryland)
Sunnyside or Sunnyside Farms is a historic slave plantation home located in Woodbine, Maryland, Woodbine, Howard County, Maryland, Howard County, Maryland. Sunnyside began as a log cabin built in 1800 by Capt. Banjamin Warfield of Cherry Grove, HO-1, Cherry Grove's son Joshua Warfield. In 1830, Albert Gallatin Warfield expanded the home, and a second expansion was completed in 1890 by his son Joshua Warfield. Albert Warfield was known for generously freeing his slaves at the age of 40, albeit at a time when life expectancy was shorter. His son Joshua Warfield operated a title company, and imported food waste for composting fertilizer for soil. The house later passed to Norman Hutton Warfield (1889 - 1955) who worked for the Federal Land Trust.
