Chepelare Municipality
Chepelare ( bg, Чепеларе ) is the principal town in Chepelare Municipality, part of Smolyan Province in Southern Bulgaria. It is situated in the central part of the Rhodopes, on the banks of Chepelare River. Chepelare is a popular winter resort with one of the longest ski runs in Southeastern Europe. It is located near Pamporovo, one of the biggest Bulgarian ski resorts. Ekaterina Dafovska ( bg, Екатерина Дафовска) (born 28 November 1975, Chepelare, Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian biathlete. She took up the biathlon in 1992. She made the national team in 1993 and came in 29th in the 15-kilometer competition at the Lillehammer Olympics the following year. Bogutevo
Bogutevo is a village in South Bulgaria. It is part of Chepelare Municipality in Smolyan Province. The village can be reached via the country road 86 and is situated around 75 km south of Plovdiv and 25 km north of Smolyan. Geography The village of Bogutevo is in the Rhodope Mountains at the upper reaches of Chepelare river. The climate is temperate continental with an average annual temperature of around 5 °C. History Bogutevo is one of the oldest villages in Chepelare Municipality. Its inhabitants took part in the Pomak uprising against the Bulgarian and Russian forces in 1878. Between 1879 and 1895 more than 150 resident Pomaks of the village have been forcibly displaced by Bulgarian military in Anatolia. Chepelare Peak ( bg, връх Чепеларе, vrah Chepelare, ) rises to approximately 900 m in the Friesland Ridge, Tangra Mountains, Livingston Island. Marvelous Bridges
The Marvelous Bridges or Wonderful Bridges ( bg, Чудни емостове, ''Chudni emostove'') are natural arches in the Rhodope Mountains of southern Bulgaria. They are located in the karst valley of the Erkyupriya River in the Western Rhodopes at metres above sea level, at the foot of Persenk Peak. Description The "bridges" were formed by the erosive activity of the once larger Erkyupryia River. It transformed the marble clefts into a deep-water cave, the ceiling of which eroded through time and collapsed, possibly during an earthquake. Geologists suggest that the water carried the debris away. As a result, the two remaining bridge-shaped outcrops remained. The larger one (upstream) is 15 metres at its widest and 96 metres long, and shaped by three vaulted arches, the largest of which is 45 metres high and 40 metres wide.
