Chen Peiqiu
Chen Peiqiu (29 December 1922 – 26 June 2020) was a Chinese calligrapher and ''guohua'' painter, often acclaimed as the foremost Chinese woman painter. She and her husband Xie Zhiliu were one of the most famous couples in Chinese visual arts. The government of Shanghai opened a museum in Nanhui New City dedicated to them. Biography Chen Peiqiu was born in 1922 in Nanyang, Henan Province. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, she took refuge with her family in Kunming, Yunnan Province. In childhood she was influenced by her mother, who was an artist, but Chen was more interested in engineering, as she thought it would be more beneficial to the society. Although she was accepted by the engineering department of National Southwestern Associated University, her family opposed her choice and forced her to transfer to the economics department. Nanyang is a prefecture-level city in the southwest of Henan province, China. The Lingnan School () of painting, also called the Cantonese School, is a style of painting from the Guangdong or Lingnan region of China. This school reflects a style of painting founded in the 19th century in Guangdong province by ''Two Gaos and one Chen'' - Gao Jianfu, Gao Qifeng and Chen Shuren, also known as "The three greats of Lingnan" (). The Lingnan style of painting was revolutionary and innovative compared to traditional Chinese painting, influenced by Nihonga visual arts and by the early Qing painter, Yun Shouping (1633–1690). Songjiang District
Songjiang is a suburban district (formerly a county) of Shanghai. It has a land area of and a population of 1,582,398 (2010). The Tianfei Palace,. officially the Mazu Cultural Palace. and also known as the Tianhou Palace,. is a restored temple of the Chinese sea-goddess Mazu, the deified form of the medieval Fujianese shamaness Lin Moniang, located in Fangta Park in Songjiang, Shanghai, in eastern China. Officially classified as a museum, the Tianfei Palace conducts Mazuist rites twice a year, on the traditional anniversaries of Lin Moniang's birth and death. Pudong is a district of Shanghai located east of the Huangpu, the river which flows through central Shanghai.
