Chemung Speedrome
The Chemung Speedrome is a 3/8 mile asphalt race track in Chemung, New York, USA. Built in 1951 by the Bodine family (becoming the home track of Geoff Bodine, Brett Bodine and Todd Bodine), the track was first dirt-surfaced, then paved. It was closed in 1978. After buying the track in 1985, one of the current owners, Bob Stapleton, started to rebuild the track in 1997, and, in 2000, the track held its inaugural event. International Supermodified Association
The International Supermodified Association (ISMA) is a sanctioning body of Short track motor racing, short track auto racing in the United States and is the largest sanctioning body of Supermodified racing, supermodified type Open-wheel car, open wheel racing. History Founded in 1974 by multi-time Oswego Speedway champions Jim Shampine and Nolan Swift to ensure the future of supermodified racing. With the help of local businessman, Tom Heveron, they formed ISMA as a forum for owners and drivers to express their ideas and opinions as they felt that they were not allowed to do so under the management of Oswego Speedway. Spencer Speedway opened in 1955 and is a 1/2 mile Flat Asphalt Oval located in Williamson, New York. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) (previously the NASCAR Winston Modified Tour and NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series from 1985 until 2005) is a modified stock car racing series owned and operated by NASCAR in the Modified Division. Chemung is a town in Chemung County, New York, United States. The population was 2,368 at the 2020 census. The town name is derived from the Chemung River, which means "Big Horn" in the native language. The town is in the southeast corner of the county and is southeast of Elmira. It is part of the Elmira Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The region was destroyed by the Sullivan Expedition on August 13, 1779, which fought at the Battle of Newtown, just west of the current town of Chemung.
