Chemistry And Love
''Chemistry and Love'' (german: Chemie und Liebe) is a 1948 East German comedy film directed by Arthur Maria Rabenalt and starring Hans Nielsen, Tilly Lauenstein and Ralph Lothar. It is an anti-capitalist satire inspired by a stage play by the communist writer Béla Balázs. The plot is built around the discoveries of a crusading inventor. It was made by the state-controlled DEFA and shot at the Johannisthal Studios in East Berlin. The film's sets were designed by the art director Emil Hasler Emil Hasler (November 8, 1901 – January 15, 1986) was a German art director who worked on more than a hundred films during his career. Arthur Maria Rabenalt
Arthur Maria Rabenalt (25 June 1905 – 26 February 1993) was an Austrian film director, writer, and author. He directed more than 90 films between 1934 and 1978. His 1958 film ''That Won't Keep a Sailor Down'' was entered into the 1st Moscow International Film Festival. Two years later, his 1960 film ''Big Request Concert'' was entered into the 2nd Moscow International Film Festival. His career encompassed both Nazi cinema and West German productions. He also wrote several books on the 1930s and 1940s wave of German cinema. Career In his early teens, Rabenalt began his stage career directing operas at theatres in Darmstadt, Berlin and Gera. From then on to the mid-1920s he worked (though uncredited) as a production assistant on several films such including G. W. Pabst's ''Joyless Street'' (1925). East Berlin
East Berlin was the ''de facto'' capital city of East Germany from 1949 to 1990. Formally, it was the Allied occupation zones in Germany, Soviet sector of Berlin, established in 1945. The American, British, and French sectors were known as West Berlin. From 13 August 1961 until 9 November 1989, East Berlin was separated from West Berlin by the Berlin Wall. East German Films
This is a list, in year order, of the most notable films produced in the Soviet Occupation Zone of Germany and the socialist German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) from 1945 until German Reunification in October 1990. The state owned East German film company DEFA produced about 800 feature films between 1946 and 1992. Besides DEFA, the state broadcaster DFF and the Deutsche Hochschule für Filmkunst (now the Filmuniversität Babelsberg) were the only other organizations in the GDR that produced feature films for cinematic release, although far fewer than DEFA. DEFA also produced about 750 animated movies and more than 2500 documentaries and short films. DEFA feature films are accessible and licensable as part of DEFA's entire film heritage on the PROGRESS archive platform. Heinz Schröder (actor)
Heinz Schröder (April 24, 1928 – April 22, 2009) was a German puppeteer. He became known in East Germany (German Democratic Republic) for puppeteering popular characters such as Pittiplatsch and Herr Fuchs (Mr. Fox) in the children's program of the East German television. From 1993 to 2009, Schröder continued to portray his characters in live performances. Life and career Heinz Schröder was born in Berlin and grew up in the borough Friedrichshain. Early in his life, he became interested in puppets and made figures out of potatoes. After Schröder broke from an apprenticeship as a design draughtsman, he got by taking odd jobs. After 1945 he worked in the magistrate of East Berlin and later in the district committee of the Free German Youth.
