''Chelsea Girl'' is the debut solo album and second studio album by German singer Nico. It was released in October 1967 by Verve Records and was recorded following Nico's collaboration with the Velvet Underground on The Velvet Underground & Nico, their 1967 debut studio album. It was produced by Tom Wilson (producer), Tom Wilson, who added string and flute arrangements against the wishes of Nico. The title is a reference to Andy Warhol's 1966 film ''Chelsea Girls'', in which Nico starred. Much of the album features instrumental work and songwriting credits from Velvet Underground members Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, and John Cale. The song "I'll Keep It with Mine" was written by Bob Dylan, while three songs are by Jackson Browne, who contributes guitar. "Chelsea Girls" is the title track of Nico's 1967 debut album, '' Chelsea Girl''. The song was written by Lou Reed and Sterling Morrison of the Velvet Underground, who Nico had collaborated with for their debut album the previous year. The title of the song and the album itself is a reference to the 1966 film of the same name by Andy Warhol, which Nico starred in herself. The film was an experimental reality movie that focused on the various residents of the Hotel Chelsea during Warhol's Factory days. Many of them were Bohemian artists, drop outs, and drug addicts, which is also described in the lyrics of the song, and also referred to are turning tricks, heroin, S&M, amphetamine and silver foil. Running at just under seven and a half minutes long, "Chelsea Girls" is similar in style to a ballad, telling the stories of various residents at the hotel. ''Chelsea Girls'' is a 1966 American experimental underground film directed by Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey. The film was Warhol's first major commercial success after a long line of avant-garde art films (both feature-length and short). It was shot at the Hotel Chelsea and other locations in New York City, and follows the lives of several of the young women living there, and stars many of Warhol's superstars. The film is presented in a split screen, accompanied by alternating soundtracks attached to each scene and an alternation between black-and-white and color photography. The original cut runs at just over three hours long. The film was the inspiration for star Nico's 1967 debut album, '' Chelsea Girl'', which featured a ballad-like track titled "Chelsea Girls", which was written about the hotel and its inhabitants. ''Life in a Day'' is the debut album by Simple Minds, released in April 1979 by record label Zoom. It reached number 30 in the UK Albums Chart. The title track and "Chelsea Girl" were issued as singles. Recording The album was recorded between mid-December 1978 and early-February 1979 in the grounds of Farmyard Studios, Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire, using the mobile unit The Mobile Studio, with further recording at Abbey Road Studios (including the recording of an orchestra for the track "Pleasantly Disturbed"), and mixed at Townhouse Studios, London. The original working title for the album "Children of the Game" (a reference to Jean Cocteau's novel of that name) had been dropped and changed to "Life in a Day" after the band had written the title track in January 1979. ''Ride'' is the first EP by British rock band Ride and their debut, released in January 1990. It was in the UK singles charts for four weeks and was the first Creation Records label release to enter U.K. Top 75. “Ride” EP was combined with its follow-up ''Play'' to form the ''Smile'' mini-album for the US market in July, 1990. Two years later, in November, 1992, ''Smile'' was released in the UK, too, after both EPs had gone out of print. In November 2022, all four songs from “Ride” EP were made available on ‘‘4EPs’’, a compilation of Ride’s first four EPs made available together for the first time and packaged as one gatefold album on white vinyl and in CD format.
