Cheadle is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Wheatland County. It is located on Highway 24, south of the Highway 1 and approximately east of the City of Calgary. Cheadle () is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. Cheadle is a market town and civil parish in the Staffordshire Moorlands District of Staffordshire, England, with a population of 12,165 at the 2011 census. Frank Cheadle (7 November 1885 – 12 May 1916) was an Australian pioneering rugby league footballer and AIF soldier who fell in World War I. A New South Wales interstate and Australian international representative centre, he was reputedly the first Sydney rugby union player to sign with the new breakaway league in its earliest formative days in late 1907. He played for New South Wales in the very first rugby match run by the newly created 'New South Wales Rugby Football League' which had just split away from the established New South Wales Rugby Football Union. Rear Admiral Richard Frank Cheadle CB, DL (born 27 January 1950) is a former Royal Navy officer who went on to be Controller of the Navy. Naval career Cheadle served as director of nuclear propulsion at the Ministry of Defence and then as commander of HM Naval Base Devonport. Promoted to rear admiral, he was appointed chief of staff to the Second Sea Lord and Commander-in-Chief, Naval Home Command in 2003. He was appointed Controller of the Navy as well as an executive director of the Defence Procurement Agency in December 2003. Vernon Irvin Cheadle (February 6, 1910 – July 23, 1995) was an American botanist, educator and university administrator. He served as the second chancellor of the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) from 1962 until 1977. He was born in Salem, South Dakota, and received his undergraduate degree from Miami University in Ohio in 1932, and a master's degree and Ph.D. in botany from Harvard University. He was an active masters athlete and held the M75 world record in the shot put, set at his home track at UCSB, for over a decade.
