Chaussy, Chavusy or Chausy ( be, Чавусы; pl, Czausy; russian: Чаусы; Belarusian Latin alphabet, Łacinka: Čavusy) is a town in the eastern Belarusian Region of Mogilev Region, Mogilev. Chavusy serves as an administrative center of Chavusy Raion. As of 2009, its population was 10,692. Jewish history It once was a substantial Jewish shtetl, which dated from the 17th century, as appears from a charter granted to the Jews January 11, 1667, by Michał Kazimierz Pac, castellan of Wilno, and confirmed by King Augustus III of Poland. March 9, 1739. In 1780, at the time of a visit of Catherine the Great, Catherine II, there was a Jewish population of 355, in 1,057; and the town possessed one synagogue. In 1803 the Jewish population was 453, in 1,185; in 1870 it was 2,433, in 4,167; and in 1897, 2,775, in about 6,000. Ekaterina Ivanchikova
Ekaterina Leonidovna Ivanchikova (Katsiaryna Leanidawna Ivanchykava) (russian: link=no, Екатерина Леонидовна Иванчикова; , born on ) is a Belarusian singer and vocalist at Belarusian-Russian band IOWA. She was born in Chavusy and is now living in Saint Petersburg. Career Katya's first performance on stage was in 1992 at the regional competition among kindergarteners, while the jury awarded her first place. In school, she was engaged in various kinds of art, including painting, dance, music, piano, and of course, singing. Throughout her adolescence, Ivanchikova was busy writing songs and developing ideas for creating a music group. In 2005 she moved to Minsk for education on linguistics and journalism in BSPU. Chaussky Uyezd (''Чаусский уезд'') was one of the subdivisions of the Mogilev Governorate of the Russian Empire. It was situated in the northern part of the governorate.
