Chavaniac-Lafayette
Chavaniac-Lafayette (; Occitan: Chavanhac de La Faieta) is a commune in the Haute-Loire department in south-central France. The Château de Chavaniac, located in the commune, was the birthplace of Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette in 1757. Originally named Chavaniac, the commune was renamed Chavaniac-Lafayette in 1884 in honor of its most famous resident. Gilbert Du Motier, Marquis De Lafayette
Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette (6 September 1757 – 20 May 1834), known in the United States as Lafayette (, ), was a French aristocrat, freemasonry, freemason and military officer who fought in the American Revolutionary War, commanding American troops in several battles, including the Siege of Yorktown (1781), siege of Yorktown. After returning to France, he was a key figure in the French Revolution of 1789 and the July Revolution of 1830. He has been considered a national hero in both countries. Lafayette was born into a wealthy land-owning family in Chavaniac-Lafayette, Chavaniac in the History of Auvergne, province of Auvergne in south central France. Château De Chavaniac
The Château de Chavaniac aka Chateau Lafayette is a fortified manor house of eighteen rooms furnished in the Louis XIII style located in Chavaniac-Lafayette, Haute-Loire, in Auvergne, France. Flanked by two towers of black stone, it was built in the 14th century and was the birthplace of General Lafayette in 1757. In 1916, a group of wealthy philanthropists led by Scottish-born American industrialist John C. Moffat purchased the castle to serve as a center of philanthropy for people affected by World War I. Following the war he renovated it completely to preserve documents and objects relating to General Lafayette. The Château de Chavaniac is now a museum open to the public. The Bastard (novel)
''The Bastard'' is a historical novel written by John Jakes and originally published in 1974. It is book one in a series known as The Kent Family Chronicles or the American Bicentennial Series. The novel mixes fictional characters with historical events or people, to tell the story of the United States of America in the time period leading up to the American Revolution. The novel was adapted into a four-hour television film in 1978, also called ''The Bastard''. Plot summary The story begins in November 1770 in Auvergne, France, near Chavaniac. Seventeen-year-old Philippe Charboneau, illegitimate son of James Amberly, the 6th Duke of Kent, travels with his mother Marie to Kent, England and stake their claim to his inheritance. When they arrive, the Duke's family refuse to recognize Philippe as the son of the Duke.
