Chattahoochee Valley Vipers
There are two teams that go by the Chattahoochee Valley Vipers. The current team is an expansion semi-professional football team based in Phenix City, Alabama and are a member of the United South Football League. The "new" Vipers were created in January 2010. The current team's website is www.eteamz.com/chattahoocheevalleyvipers. The old Chattahoochee Valley Vipers (or the Valley Vipers for short) were a professional indoor football team based out of Columbus, Georgia. Founded by Brian Schwelling of Acworth, Georgia (former owner of the Johnstown Riverhawks), they were a 2006 expansion member of the American Indoor Football League. Schwelling sold the team to Steven Roddy of Atlanta and Dwayne Robinson of Bermuda who operated the expansion franchise. They played their home games at the Columbus Civic Center. Columbus, Georgia
Columbus is a consolidated city-county located on the west-central border of the U.S. state of Georgia. Columbus lies on the Chattahoochee River directly across from Phenix City, Alabama. It is the county seat of Muscogee County, with which it officially merged in 1970. Columbus is the second-largest city in Georgia (after Atlanta), and fields the state's fourth-largest metropolitan area. Columbus Civic Center
Columbus Civic Center is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Columbus, Georgia, built in 1996. History The arena was built in 1996, along with a Softball Complex, to fully complete South Commons (an area consisting of a baseball and football stadium, and a skateboard park). The venue replaced the Municipal Auditorium, which was constructed in 1955. Events The Columbus Civic Center is home to the Columbus Lions indoor football team and the Columbus River Dragons professional ice hockey team. The Civic Center also hosts some Auburn Tigers collegiate ice hockey games when the Columbus Ice Rink next door is unavailable. Several other sports teams have also used the arena in the past. American Indoor Football (AIF) was a professional indoor football league, one of the several regional professional indoor football leagues in North America. The AIFL began as a regional league with six franchises on the East Coast of the United States in 2005. After a rapid, and largely failed, expansion effort in 2006, most of the league's remaining teams jumped to the new AIFA (the rest joined the short-lived WIFL). The AIFA expanded throughout existing territory and, in 2008, expanded into the Western United States. The league legally divided into two entities to allow for a partial merger with the Southern Indoor Football League, which resulted in all of its Eastern teams merging into the SIFL and the AIFA only maintaining its western teams. The league's western component, which remained separate of the merger, had indicated it would play as the AIFA West for the 2011 season but ceased operations January 2011. Indoor American Football
Indoor American football, or arena football, is a variation of gridiron football played at ice hockey-sized indoor arenas. Daytona Beach Thunder
The Daytona Beach ThunderBirds were an arena football team based in Daytona Beach, Florida. They were founded in 2005 as the Daytona Beach Hawgs playing in the National Indoor Football League. In 2006, they changed their name to the Daytona Thunder and played in three different indoor football leagues over three seasons: the American Indoor Football League in 2006, the World Indoor Football League in 2007, and the AF2, the Arena Football League's developmental league, in 2008 (when their name was changed to the ThunderBirds). The National Indoor Football League (NIFL) was a professional indoor football league in the United States. For their first six years, the league had teams in markets not covered by either the Arena Football League or its developmental league, AF2, however, that changed briefly with their expansion into AFL markets such as Atlanta, Denver, and Los Angeles, and AF2 markets such as Fort Myers and Houston.
