Chart Records
Chart Records was a country music record label of the 1960s, best known for turning Lynn Anderson into a major country star. It was owned by Slim Williamson. The label was founded in 1964. Among the artists who recorded at one time for the label were Kenny Vernon, Johnny Bush, Junior Samples, Del Wood, Maxine Brown, Jim Nesbitt, Connie Eaton, Lynn Anderson, Red Sovine, Billy "Crash" Craddock, LaWanda Lindsey, Anthony Armstrong Jones and Doug Koempel. Many of the labels' vocalists were quite young, teenagers or in their early twenties, quite unusual during the 1960s for a country music label. Chart was distributed by RCA Victor for several years during the 1960s and early 1970s. Today, Gusto Records owns the Chart Records catalogue except for the recordings by Lynn Anderson, which is owned by Sony Music Entertainment (the current owner of RCA Records), and has reissued a number of the recordings on CD. Connie Eaton
Connie Eaton (March 1, 1950 – September 30, 1999) was a country music singer. Eaton was a native of Nashville, Tennessee and began her recording career as a teenager in the late 1960s, recording for Chart Records. Chart was the label that established Lynn Anderson as a major country singer and Eaton was considered by the country music press as the label's "next" Anderson. Prior to beginning her recording career, Eaton had been a runnerup in a "Miss Nashville" beauty contest. Her first record, "Too Many Dollars, Not Enough Sense", a Liz Anderson song, was released in 1968. Eaton had a top 40 country hit with a cover of Merrilee Rush's pop record Angel of the Morning in 1970 which earned her a ''Billboard'' "Most Promising Female Vocalist" nomination but this proved to be Eaton's only hit record during her years on the Chart label although a duet with Dave Peel, a cover of Ray Charles' "Hit the Road Jack" came within a few spots of cracking the Top 40 also in 1970. Ronnie Jones (June 2, 1949 – June 16, 1996) was an American country music singer known professionally as Anthony Armstrong Jones, a stage name that he took from the name of the British photographer who married Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. A former professional golfer, Jones recorded four albums for Chart Records in that timespan, in addition to charting six times in the Top 40 on the ''Billboard'' country singles charts. His debut single was a No. 22-peaking cover of "Proud Mary," originally by Creedence Clearwater Revival, which served as the title track of his first album. LaWanda Lindsey (born January 12, 1953) is an American country music singer. Born in Tampa, Florida, United States, she began her career at age 14 and had her first nationally charted record at age 16 with "Partly Bill". She was one of several quite young artists recording country music for Chart Records during this period, and was paired with country singer-songwriter Kenny Vernon, to record a number of duets. She got her start singing on WEAS-AM radio station in Savannah, Georgia, where her father, Norman H. "Lefty" Lindsey, was the general manager and on-air personality. Billy Wayne "Crash" Craddock (born June 16, 1939) is an American country and rockabilly singer. He first gained popularity in Australia in the 1950s with a string of rockabilly hits, including the Australian number one hits " Boom Boom Baby" and "One Last Kiss" in 1960 and 1961 respectively. Woodrow Wilson "Red" Sovine (July 7, 1917 – April 4, 1980) was an American country music singer and songwriter associated with truck driving songs, particularly those recited as narratives but set to music. His most noted examples are "Giddyup Go" (1965) and "Teddy Bear" (1976), both of which topped the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Songs chart. Jim Nesbitt (December 1, 1931 – November 29, 2007) was an American country music singer. He had his first hit with "Please Mr. Kennedy" in 1961. It was released on Dot Records Dot Records was an American record label founded by Randy Wood (record producer), Randy Wood and Gene Nobles that was active between 1950 and 1978.
