''Otoconcha dimidiata'' is a species of small air-breathing semi-slug, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Charopidae. It has a very thin and cap like shell hidden under its skin in the rounded swelling behind the head. ''Otoconcha dimidiata'' is the type species of the genus ''Otoconcha''. Distribution This species occurs in both North and South islands of New Zealand New Zealand ( mi, Aotearoa ) is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It consists of two main landmasses—the North Island () and the South Island ()—and over 700 smaller islands. It is the sixth-largest island count .... Habitat This semi slug lives in rotting logs where it is rarely seen because of its secretive habits, but it is not rare. It can be found by careful searching by torch light in damp areas of native forest. Ecology ''Otoconcha dimidiata'' is the preferred prey of the carnivorous land gastropod '' Schizoglossa novoseelandica''. Murdoch ...

Ba Humbugi
''Ba humbugi'' is the only species and therefore the type species in the genus ''Ba'', a genus of land snail, belonging to the family Charopidae. Both the genus and the species were named by the American malacologist Alan Solem. The genus is endemic to the Fijian island of Viti Levu, and ' is an endangered species. Taxonomic history Alan Solem, the curator of invertebrates at the Field Museum of Natural History, created the genus ''Ba'' for his newly- described species '. Solem based his description of the type species ' on a holotype which the American malacologist Yoshio Kondo had collected in 1938 and three paratypes. One paratype was deposited in the Field Museum; the remaining specimens in the type series were deposited in the Bishop Museum. Etymology Solem chose the generic name ''Ba'' after Ba District, Fiji, which extends into ' range. This led to him having an "irresistible impulse" to name the type species ', in reference to the character Ebenezer Scrooge's catchphrase ...

Notodiscus Hookeri
''Notodiscus hookeri'' is a species of small air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial gastropod mollusk in the family Charopidae. This snail lives on islands in the sub-Antarctic region. Its shell is unique among land snails in that the organic shell layers contain no chitin. Taxonomy This species was described under the name ''Helix hookeri'' by an English conchologist Lovell Augustus Reeve in 1854. The specific name ''hookeri'' is in honor of English botanist Joseph Dalton Hooker, who collected this snail during the Antarctic expedition led by James Clark Ross. Reeve's type description reads in Latin and in English language as follows: Henry Augustus Pilsbry classified this species as ''Helix hookeri'' in 1887 or within the genus '' Amphidoxa'' as ''Amphidoxa hookeri'' within the family Endodontidae in 1894. Also Alan Solem classified this species within the family Endodontidae in 1968. A subspecies ''Notodiscus hookeri heardensis'' Dell, 1964 was recognized in Heard Isla ...

''Radiodiscus patagonicus'' is a minute species of air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial gastropod mollusk or micromollusk in the family Charopidae. Distribution This species occurs in countries including: * Brazil (in Portuguese with English abstract) * Patagonia The type locality is Santa Cruz near Mt. of Observation on the Rio Chico 50 miles above Sierra Oveja, on a dry stone near the water (according to F. von Ihering). Spring near base of the Andes, 65 miles north of the Rio Chico, elevation 2400 ft. Banks of a small stream 10 miles from Ushe Lake (according to the J. B. Hatcher). Shell description The shell is openly umbilicate (the umbilicus about one-fourth the total diameter), of a uniform pale brown tint, discoidal. The spire is convex but low. Suture is deeply impressed. The shell has 3 ½ whorls, that are convex, slowly increasing, the embryonic 1 ½ densely striate spirally, the rest radially costellate. The riblets are about as wide as their interv ...

Pulmonate
Pulmonata or pulmonates, is an informal group (previously an order, and before that a subclass) of snails and slugs characterized by the ability to breathe air, by virtue of having a pallial lung instead of a gill, or gills. The group includes many land and freshwater families, and several marine families. The taxon Pulmonata as traditionally defined was found to be polyphyletic in a molecular study per Jörger ''et al.'', dating from 2010. Pulmonata are known from the Carboniferous Period to the present. Pulmonates have a single atrium and kidney, and a concentrated, symmetrical, nervous system. The mantle cavity is located on the right side of the body, and lacks gills, instead being converted into a vascularised lung. Most species have a shell, but no operculum, although the group does also include several shell-less slugs. Pulmonates are hermaphroditic, and some groups possess love darts. Linnean taxonomy The taxonomy of this group according to the taxonomy of the Ga ...

Semi-slug
Semi-slugs, also spelled semislugs, are land gastropods whose shells are too small for them to retract into, but not quite vestigial. The shell of some semi-slugs may not be easily visible on casual inspection, because the shell may be covered over with the mantle. This is a type of gastropod that is intermediate between a slug (without an external shell) and a land snail (with a large enough shell to retract completely into). There exist a number of gastropod families that have semi-slugs species.Breure A. S. H. (2010). "The rediscovery of a semi-slug: ''Coloniconcha prima'' Pilsbry, 1933 (Gastropoda, Pleurodontidae) from Hispaniola". ''Basteria'' 74(4-6): 78-86. There exist about 1,000 species of semi-slugs in comparison to about only 500 species of slugs.Burton D. W. (1982). "How to be sluggish". ''Tuatara'' 25(2): 48-63HTM Examples Semi-slugs have a worldwide distribution and have evolved in several families; genera include: * Palearctic and Nearctic ** family Parmacel ...
