Laverie Vallee ''née'' Cooper (July 18, 1875 – February 6, 1949), best known by her stage name Charmion, was an American vaudeville trapeze artist and strongwoman whose well-publicized suggestive performance was captured on film in 1901 by Thomas Edison. Career According to the ''Journal of Sport History'' article "Flying, Flirting, and Flexing: Charmion's Trapeze Act, Sexuality, and Physical Culture at the Turn of the Twentieth Century", she made her debut on December 25, 1897, at Koster and Bial's vaudeville theatre in New York City. A native of Sacramento, Charmion built her act around a memorable routine which opened with her on-stage entrance dressed in full Victorian street attire. She subsequently mounted the trapeze and disrobed down to her acrobat leotards in the midst of the trapeze's swinging motion. Charmian Gradwell is a British actress, best known for her role in the television game show '' The Adventure Game''. She also played Jenny Richards in '' Howards' Way''. She has played many lead roles in the West End and has represented Britain in the kayak marathon. She was a gold medallist at the world masters in 1997. Later in her career, she tore her anterior cruciate ligament, an injury which left her unable to walk. Charmian Catherine Woodfield (née Phillips; 1929–2014) was a British archaeologist. Career Charmian started worked for the Ministry of Works as a field archaeologist. She excavated many sites, including Verulamium (St Albans) with Sheppard Frere and Whitefriars, Coventry. Her publication record included excavation reports and monographs, specialist pottery reports, and reports of other finds, mainly focused on sites around Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, and the Midlands. Following her death, archaeologist David Breeze commented that Charmian had "set a new standard" for the level of reporting and recording of Hadrian's Wall after her 1965 publication of six excavations of Turrets in that region. Excavations carried out in the 1960s on the site of the Carmelite Friary at Coventry, England, by Charmain, revealed the lost church, of unexpected size and splendour, adjoining the standing cloister E range. Dame Charmian Jocelyn O'Connor (née Bishop, born 4 August 1937) is a New Zealand physical organic chemist. She became the first female professor of chemistry at the University of Auckland in 1986, and retired in 2004. Early life and education Born in Woodville on 4 August 1937, the daughter of Cecil and Kathrene Bishop, O'Connor was educated at Hastings High School and Auckland Girls' Grammar School. She went on to study chemistry at Auckland University College, graduating Bachelor of Science in 1957, Master of Science with first-class honours in 1958, and completing a PhD in physical organic chemistry in 1963 at what by that time had become the University of Auckland. Charmian Mellars (; born 7 January 1979 in Papakura, Auckland) is a New Zealand female professional basketball player. She was a member of New Zealand women's national basketball team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She scored six points and grabbed two rebounds in the game they played against China, which they were defeated 80-63. Charmian Rosemary May (16 June 1937 – 24 October 2002) was an English character actress best known for her television and film roles. She appeared in the sitcoms '' The Good Life'' and ''Keeping Up Appearances'', and the film ''Bridget Jones's Diary''. She appeared as Miss Pershore in episodes 6 and 7 of ''The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin'' (1976). Charmian London (née Kittredge; November 27, 1871 – January 14, 1955) was an American writer and the second wife of Jack London. Early life "Clara" Charmian Kittredge was born to poet and writer Dayelle "Daisy" Wiley and California hotelier Willard "Kitt" Kittredge at a railroad outpost south of Los Angeles. Her mother died in 1877 when Charmian was six years old. Charmian Johnson (1939 – July 20, 2020) was a Canadian artist and potter based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Life and career Charmian Johnson was born in Pouce Coupe, BC in 1939. She attended Delta Central School in Delta, BC then the University of British Columbia to study ceramics from 1967-69. She studied under Glenn Lewis and Mick Henry.
