Charlotte Seither
Charlotte Seither (born 1965) is a German classical composer, pianist and music educator. She has composed a wide range of orchestral music, orchestral, chamber music, chamber and choral music, winning many awards including the 2014 German Music Authors' Prize for contemporary choral composition. Her works have been performed across Europe, in Asia and in the Americas. Biography Born in Landau on 31 August 1965, Seither studied piano, German language and musicology in Hanover and Berlin under Frank-Michael Beyer, Friedrich Goldmann and Aribert Reimann, earning a doctorate in 1998. In 1994, she won first prize at the Göttingen Composition Contest and the following year she became the first German to win first prize at the Prague Spring International Composition Contest. Her works have been performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Ensemble Modern. BBC Symphony Orchestra
The BBC Symphony Orchestra (BBC SO) is a British orchestra based in London. Founded in 1930, it was the first permanent salaried orchestra in London, and is the only one of the city's five major symphony orchestras not to be self-governing. The BBC SO is the principal broadcast orchestra of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The orchestra was originally conceived in 1928 as a joint enterprise by the BBC and the conductor Sir Thomas Beecham, but the latter withdrew the next year and the task of assembling and training the orchestra fell to the BBC's director of music, Adrian Boult. Among its guest conductors in its first years was Arturo Toscanini, who judged it the finest orchestra he had ever conducted. During and after the Second World War, Boult strove to maintain standards, but the senior management of the post-war BBC did not allocate the orchestra the resources to meet competition from new and well-funded rivals. BBC Proms
The BBC Proms or Proms, formally named the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts Presented by the BBC, is an eight-week summer season of daily orchestral classical music concerts and other events held annually, predominantly in the Royal Albert Hall in central London. Gaudeamus Foundation
The Gaudeamus Foundation and Contemporary Music Center organizes and promotes contemporary musical activities and concerts in the Netherlands and abroad. It focuses on supporting the career development of young composers and musicians, particularly Dutch, through its library facilities, contacts with international organizations, and its own activities. Ensemble Modern
Ensemble Modern is an international ensemble dedicated to performing and promoting the music of modern composers. Formed in 1980, the group is based in Frankfurt, Germany, and made up variously of about twenty members from numerous countries. History Ensemble Modern was founded in 1980 by members of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. From the beginning, the ensemble chose to organize itself democratically. There is no artistic director or chief conductor; instead, all projects, productions and financial matters are decided and supported by the musicians directly.
