Charlotte Radcliffe
Charlotte Ellen Radcliffe (3 August 1903 – 12 December 1979) was an English competitive swimmer from Liverpool who competed for Great Britain in the 1920 Summer Olympics. In the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium, at age 17,The final event was held on 29 August 1920, after Radcliffe's birthday she won a silver medal in the 4×100-metre freestyle relay, in which she swam the third leg of the race. She finished seventh in her first heat of 100-metre freestyle event and did not advance. She is the great aunt of long-distance runner Paula Radcliffe. Freestyle Swimming
Freestyle is a category of swimming competition, defined by the rules of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), in which competitors are subject to a few limited restrictions on their swimming stroke. Freestyle races are the most common of all swimming competitions, with distances beginning with 50 meters (50 yards) and reaching 1500 meters (1650 yards), also known as the mile. The term 'freestyle stroke' is sometimes used as a synonym for 'front crawl', as front crawl is the fastest surface swimming stroke. It is now the most common stroke used in freestyle competitions.
