Charlie Maher
Charles H. Maher (February 7, 1902 – January 1, 1971) was a former American baseball coach and catcher. He played college baseball for Western Michigan for coach Judson Hyames from 1922 to 1925 before playing professionally in 1926. He then served as the head baseball coach of the Western Michigan Broncos from 1937 to 1943 and again from 1946 to 1967, leading the Broncos to six College World Series appearances including a second-place finish in the 1955 College World Series. Mendon, Michigan
Mendon is a village in St. Joseph County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 870 at the 2010 census. The village is located within Mendon Township. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , of which is land and is water. History This area along the St. Joseph River was settled in the colonial period by French pioneers from Quebec and France. They traded with the Potawatomi and other Algonquian-speaking tribes of the area. After United States acquisition of this territory following the American Revolution, settlers began to enter from eastern states in the early 19th century. The original county of St. Joseph was divided by Americans into townships. Mendon township was settled in 1831. The village of Mendon was platted in 1845. 1952 College World Series
The College World Series was the sixth NCAA-sanctioned baseball tournament that determined a national champion. The tournament was held as the conclusion of the 1952 NCAA baseball season and was played at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska from June 12 to June 17. The tournament's champion was the Holy Cross Crusaders, coached by Jack Barry. The Most Outstanding Player was James O'Neill of Holy Cross. 1952 Western Michigan Broncos Baseball Team
The 1952 Western Michigan Broncos baseball team represented Michigan College of Education (now known Western Michigan University) in the 1952 NCAA baseball season. The Broncos played their home games at Hyames Field. The team was coached by Charlie Maher in his 14th year at Western Michigan. The Broncos won the District IV playoff to advanced to the College World Series, where they were defeated by the Holy Cross Crusaders.
