Charleston Academy
Charleston Academy ( Gaelic:''Àrd Sgoil Bhaile Theàrlaich'') is a secondary school established in 1978, in the Kinmylies area of Inverness, Scotland. The present roll is 724 pupils. The catchment area includes Kinmylies, Muirtown, Leachkin and Clachnaharry in the west of Inverness, as well as the rural communities of Beauly, Kirkhill, Kiltarlity, Struy, Abriachan and Dochgarroch. About Charleston Academy opened in August 1978 on a new site to the west of Inverness. The school is part of the Charleston Academy Community Campus which consists of the school, its associated Community Centre and the Highland Football Academy. As a former School of Ambition, extensive improvements to Physical Education provision have been made in recent years. Struy
Struy ( gd, An t-Srùigh or gd, Sruidh) is a small village at the end of Glen Strathfarrar, about 15 km south-west of Beauly in the Highland council area of Scotland. Description The confluence of the River Farrar and the River Glass is a short distance to the east of Struy, here the rivers join to become the River Beauly. The River Farrar is crossed by Thomas Telford's five arch Struy Bridge a short distance to the north, this carries the A831 road. A minor road crosses the Mauld Bridge, over the River Glass, to the south-east of Struy. John Barr (shinty)
John Barr (born 1982) is a Scottish international shinty player from Abriachan, Scotland. He presently plays for Glenurquhart Shinty Club. History Barr attended Charleston Academy in Inverness. He was instrumental in the rise of Robert Gordon University as a force in University Shinty. He has represented Scotland at all levels of shinty, most recently in 2009. He is one of few shinty players to have his own chant, in tribute to his physically dominant style of play. The chant "John Barr ate my car" is a favourite at games where he is playing. Abriachan
Abriachan (; Gaelic: ''Obar Itheachan''), is a village in the Highland council area of Scotland. It is situated high above the western shore of Loch Ness, 15 km to the south-west of the city of Inverness. The village has a population of approximately 120. There are no schools in Abriachan, so children travel by bus into Inverness or to Dochgarroch or Tomnacross for their education. At the bottom of the Abriachan hill, where the Kilianan stream meets Loch Ness, is Abriachan Garden Nursery, with a woodland walk and plant selling area. Kiltarlity
Kiltarlity ( gd, Cill Targhlain) is a small village in the Highland council area of Scotland. It is west of Inverness and south of Beauly, on the south bank of the Bruiach Burn. It has a population of under 1,000 people, and a local primary school, Tomnacross Primary. Lovat Shinty Club play at Kiltarlity, on a pitch beside the village's main street, Balgate Drive. Kiltarlity has a village store and a post office, Brockie's Lodge (a former hotel, now bar), and a village hall. Close to the village are Lovat Castle, the historic seat of Clan Fraser of Lovat, and the Belladrum Estate, site of the rapidly-growing Tartan Heart Festival. Kinmylies
Kinmylies ( ) is an area in the west end of the city of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. The area sits between the side of the hill Craig Phadrig (Gaelic for Patrick's Rock); and the Caledonian Canal. The local football team was Caledonian F.C. until they merged with another team (Inverness Thistle) to form Inverness Caledonian Thistle and moved out of the area. The name Kinmylies originates from the Scots Gaelic ''Ceann a' Mhìlidh'', meaning Head (or place) of the Warriors. The area appears in the 1841 census onwards but in the 1970s became built up initially as housing for key workers, who were encouraged to move to the area to aid its growth. Kinmylies houses Charleston Academy; a secondary School with a local catchment area, and additionally villages surrounding the city; such as Beauly and Drumnadrochit. Kirkhill, Highland
Kirkhill (Scottish Gaelic: ''Cnoc Mhoire'', meaning "Big Hill") is a small village and civil parish in the Highland council area of Scotland. It is 10 miles (16 km) west of Inverness and 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of Beauly, close to the south opening of the Beauly Firth. The village of Kirkhill encompasses the historic parish of Wardlaw to its north, the two areas merging in 1618.
