Charles De Lambert (aviator)
Charles, Count de Lambert (30 December 1865, in Funchal – 26 February 1944, in Saint-Sylvain-d'Anjou) was an early European aviator. In 1904 Count Lambert built an experimental hydrofoil boat which was first tested in May 1904 on the River Seine near Paris. It had twin hulls and was powered by a 14HP De Dion-Bouton motor. Even with this modest power it was able to rise up on the hydrofoils until the hull just skimmed the water with only the propeller below the surface reaching a speed of 20 mph. De Lambert was the first person in France to be taught to fly by Wilbur Wright. Charles De Lambert (soldier)
Count Charles-Marie de Lambert (15 June 1773 – 30 May 1843), was a French Royalist general who fought for Russia during the Napoleonic Wars. Life After his brother Maurice's death, Catherine II of Russia invited Charles and his father (who had already left France) to join the Russian Army in honour of Maurice's bravery. In 1793 he joined the 2nd Grand Kinbourn Dragoon Regiment to help put down the Kościuszko Uprising. He and his father fought in the battle on the Matsiovitsa Hill and the assault on the heavily fortified Prague suburb of Warsaw and rose to commander and lieutenant colonel. He was granted the Order of St George 4th class on 1 January 1795 In 1796 he fought in the Persian campaign under Valerian Zubov's command at the head of a cossack regiment. On returning from Persia he transferred to the Strarodubov Cuirassier Regiment. He rose to colonel in 1798 but left the army because of illness the same year. Count Karl Karlovich Lambert (russian: link=no, Карл Карлович Ламберт; french: link=no, Charles-Alexandre comte de Lambert) (1815 – 20 July 1865) was a Russian General of Cavalry and Namestnik of the Kingdom of Poland from August to October 1861. From 1840 to 1844, he fought against Chechnya, Chechen highlanders during the Caucasian War. In 1848, he became chief of staff of II Russian Corps suppressing the Hungarian Revolution of 1848.
