Charles Woods (Alabama)
Charles Woods (September 30, 1920 – October 17, 2004) was an Alabama businessman and broadcaster, and aspiring politician. Woods was raised in an orphanage. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a decorated pilot with the Air Corps. Early life and education He was born Charles Arthur Morris. His divorced mother was unable to support her two young sons so she placed them in a state orphanage when he was five years old. He never saw her again and at age of 6 was adopted by P. A. Woods family from Headland, Alabama. He attended schools in Hollywood, California, where his new family lived for some time, and in Headland. Military career Woods joined the RCAF and the United States Army Air Corps in 1941, eventually rising to the rank of Major. Woods was severely injured in a 1944 airplane crash on December 23. Charles Albert Woods (July 31, 1852 – June 21, 1925) was an Associate Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court and then a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Education and career Born in the neighborhood of Springfield in Darlington, South Carolina, to Samuel Alexander Woods and Martha Jane DuBose Woods on July 31, 1852, Woods received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from Wofford College in 1872 and read law at the firm of Warley & Dargan to enter the bar in September 1873. He was in private practice from 1873 to 1903. On January 28, 1903, while serving as the President of the South Carolina Bar Association, he was elected a justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court by the South Carolina General Assembly by a vote of 87-67, defeating Robert Aldrich, starting a term that would last from 1903 to 1913. Charles Pound Woods (12 September 1878 – 1 July 1940) was an English cricketer. Woods was a right-handed batsman. He was born in Swinton, Lancashire. Woods made his debut for Cheshire in the 1910 Minor Counties Championship against Northumberland. He played Minor counties cricket for the county from 1910 to 1912, making six appearances. Almost twenty years later at the age of 51, he played a single first-class match for Wales against the Minor Counties in 1930. In Wales first-innings he was dismissed for 5 runs by Ernest Dynes, while in their second-innings he was dismissed for 4 runs by the same bowler.
