Maryland Route 187
Maryland Route 187 (MD 187) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known as Old Georgetown Road, the highway runs from MD 355 and MD 410 in Bethesda north to Executive Boulevard in North Bethesda. MD 187 is a four- to six-lane highway that runs parallel to MD 355 through suburban areas of southern Montgomery County. The highway was paved through Bethesda by 1910. The remainder of MD 187 was constructed in the mid- to late 1920s. The highway was relocated at its northern end and expanded to a divided highway over most of its length in the late 1960s. MD 187's interchanges with Interstate 270 (I-270) and I-495 were built in the late 1950s and early 1960s, respectively; the former interchange was reconstructed in the early 2000s. The northern terminus was cut back from MD 355 to Executive Boulevard in 2016. Lisa Marie Nowak (née Caputo, born May 10, 1963) is an American aeronautical engineer, and former NASA astronaut and United States Navy officer. Nowak served as naval flight officer and test pilot in the Navy, and was selected by NASA for NASA Astronaut Group 16 in 1996, qualifying as a mission specialist in robotics. She flew in space aboard during the STS-121 mission in July 2006, when she was responsible for operating the robotic arms of the shuttle and the International Space Station. Michael Mayer (born June 27, 1960) is an American theatre director, filmmaker, and playwright. Scott Cook is a retired American soccer player who played professionally in the American Professional Soccer League, National Professional Soccer League and USISL. Cook graduated Charles W. Woodward High School from where he was part of the school's 1982 Maryland state championship high school soccer team. In 1983, he attended the University of Connecticut, playing on the men's soccer team for one season before failing out of school. In 1985, Cook entered the University of South Carolina. He would play on the Gamecocks’ soccer team from 1985 to 1987. In 1988, he turned professional with the Maryland Bays of the American Soccer League. In 1989, he moved south to the Orlando Lions but was back with the Bays for the 1990 and 1991 seasons. In the fall of 1988, Cook also began his indoor soccer career. Josiah Henson
Josiah Henson (June 15, 1789 – May 5, 1883) was an author, abolitionist, and minister. Born into slavery, in Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland, he escaped to Upper Canada (now Ontario) in 1830, and founded a settlement and laborer's school for other fugitive slaves at Dawn, near Dresden, in Kent County, Upper Canada, of Ontario. Henson's autobiography, ''The Life of Josiah Henson, Formerly a Slave, Now an Inhabitant of Canada, as Narrated by Himself'' (1849), is believed to have inspired the title character of Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1852 novel ''Uncle Tom's Cabin'' (1852). Hans Riemer (Maryland Politician)
Hans Davis Riemer (born September 5, 1972) is a German-American non-profit executive, political activist, and author. He served as an at-large member of the Montgomery County Council in Maryland from 2010 to 2022. He unsuccessfully ran for Montgomery County executive in 2022, with a platform including affordable housing, environmental policy, and police reform.
