Charles W. Merriam
Charles Willis Merriam (November 5, 1877 – July 17, 1961) was an American insurance businessman and politician from New York. Life Merriam was born on November 5, 1877, in Waverly, New York, the son of merchant and insurance businessman Charles E. Merriam and Jane Wells. Merriam attended public school in Waverly, high school in Albany, and a course at the Albany Business College. In 1898, he moved to Schenectady and worked with his father in the insurance business. He also worked in real estate. He served in the Troop B of the New York National Guard for three years. During World War I, he was treasurer and chairman of the local Red Cross. In 1907, he was elected to the county board of supervisors. He was re-elected to the office for ten years and he was chairman of the board from 1914 to 1917. Waverly, Tioga County, New York
Waverly is the largest village in Tioga County, New York, United States. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, Waverly had a population of 4,177. It is located southeast of Elmira in the Southern Tier region. This village was incorporated as the southwest part of the town of Barton in 1854. The village name is attributed to Joseph "Uncle Joe" Hallett, founder of its first Fire Department and pillar of the community, who conceived the name by dropping the second "e" from the name of his favorite author's novel, ''Waverley'' by Sir Walter Scott. The former village hall is listed on the National Historic Places list. Waverly is part of the Binghamton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Goshen, New York
Goshen is a town in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 13,687 at the 2010 census. The town is named after the Biblical Land of Goshen. It contains a village also called Goshen, which is the county seat of Orange County. The town is centrally located in the county. History European settlement began around 1714, although plans for this were made beginning about 1654. The town was established in 1788, after the American Revolutionary War and New York becoming a state. As population increased in the area, in 1830, part of Goshen was divided off to form the new Town of Hamptonburgh. In 1845, another part was used to form the Town of Chester. First Presbyterian Church (Schenectady, New York)
First Presbyterian Church in Schenectady, New York is a historic Presbyterian Church in America congregation. The roots of the congregation go back to the 1730s. Episcopalians and Presbyterians had used the St. George's Episcopal Church building, with each group using different entrances to the building. In 1769, First Presbyterian was founded when its members decided to build their own wooden church structure. The first settled pastor was the Rev. Alexander Miller in 1771. The present church building was copied from the Ransom Court Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania under Rev. Alexander Monteith's pastorate (1809-1815).
