Charles Tighe
Bernard Charles Tighe (January 21, 1927 – December 13, 2004) was an American lawyer who served as the 29th Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota of 1965–1969, serving under Governor William L. Guy. Background Born in Fargo, North Dakota, Tighe graduated from Fargo High School. He went to the University of Notre Dame briefly and then served in the United States Navy. He then received his bachelor's degree and law degrees from the University of North Dakota and was admitted to the North Dakota bar. He then practiced law. Lieutenant Governor Of North Dakota
The lieutenant governor of North Dakota is a political office in North Dakota. The lieutenant governor's duty is to preside as President of the Senate, and is responsible for legislative relations, the state budget and agribusiness development. In the event the office of the governor becomes vacant, the lieutenant governor assumes that office and appoints a replacement lieutenant. The current lieutenant governor is Brent Sanford, having been elected and re-elected with Governor Doug Burgum. Before 1974, the lieutenant governor of North Dakota was elected separately from the governor. To avoid hostile relations between a lieutenant governor and governor from different parties, the process was changed to where the governor and lieutenant governor are elected together on a joint ballot and are of the same party. Wayne Godfrey Sanstead (born April 16, 1935) served as the North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1985 to January 1, 2013, and from 1972 to 1981 as the 31st Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota. Early life Sanstead was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on April 16, 1935, to Godfrey A. and Clara (Buen) Sanstead. Sanstead married Mary Jane Bober on June 16, 1957. They have two children, Timothy Wayne & Jonathan Paul. Education In 1957 Sanstead received his B.A. from St. Olaf College, and in 1967 his Master of Arts in Speech from Northwestern University.
