Charles S. Desmond
Charles Stewart Desmond (December 2, 1896 – February 9, 1987), was an American lawyer and politician from New York (state), New York. He was Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals from 1960 to 1966. Life Desmond was born and died in Buffalo, New York. He was the son of Patrick Desmond and Katherine (Jordan) Desmond. He graduated Bachelor of Arts, A.B. and Master of Arts, M.A. from Canisius College. During World War I, he served as a second lieutenant#United States, second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps Aviation. However, he caught influenza during training and did not get overseas before the Armistice with Germany (Compiègne), Armistice. In 1920, he graduated LL.B. from University at Buffalo Law School. The 1954 New York state election was held on November 2, 1954, to elect the governor, the lieutenant governor, the state comptroller, the attorney general, the chief judge and three associate judges of the New York Court of Appeals, as well as all members of the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate. Background This was the first election in which the voters were required to cast a single joint vote for governor and lieutenant governor, following the amendment to the State Constitution in 1953. Chief Judge Edmund H. Lewis would reach the constitutional age limit of 70 years at the end of the year. Albert Conway
Albert Conway (April 3, 1889 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York – May 18, 1969 in Brooklyn, New York City) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. He was Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals from 1955 to 1959. Life He was the son of Joseph P. Conway and Jane Lucille (Flanagan) Conway. He graduated from Fordham University Law School in 1911. In 1917, he married Irene Hewitt (d. 1929). Afterwards he married Alice O'Neil (d. 1978). He was an alternate delegate to the 1928 Democratic National Convention. In 1928, he ran for New York State Attorney General but was defeated by Republican Hamilton Ward, Jr. Early in 1929, Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed Conway as New York State Superintendent of Insurance. In June 1930, he was appointed County Judge of Kings County to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of W. Eden is a town located south of Buffalo, in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 7,688 at the 2010 census. The basis for choosing the town's name is unknown. Eden is one of the interior "Southtowns" of Erie County, lying in the south-central part of the county and south of Buffalo. History The first settler, Samuel Tubbs, arrived in 1808 along with John Welch, Dr. John March, Levi Bunting and Daniel Webster.
