Charles Prince (actor)
Charles Prince Seigneur (27 April 187218 July 1933) was a French-born film actor and comedian, best known for his screen persona "'' Rigadin''" in numerous short slapstick comedies. He was also known as "Moritz" in Germany, "Whiffles" in England and the US, and "Tartufini" in Italy. He was the second biggest film star in the world in the years leading up to World War I, just behind his rival Max Linder. Prince's "Rigadin" character was similar to Linder's "Max" in that they were both upper-class dandys that were constantly getting into trouble with authority figures and love interests. Prince began his acting career on the stage and was hired by Pathé Frères in 1908. He made over 200 films as "Rigadin" from 1909 until 1920. By 1920 his popularity had faded and he played supporting roles in a handful of films in the 1920s and 1930s. Maisons-Laffitte () is a Communes of France, commune in the Yvelines Departments of France, department in the northern Île-de-France Regions of France, region of France. It is a part of the affluent outer suburbs of northwestern Paris, from its Kilometre zero, centre. In 2018, it had a population of 23,611. Aimée Campton or Miss Campton (6 April 1882 – 21 November 1930) was a dancer, music hall artist, postcard beauty and a French actress of English origin. A silent film actress, she played the lead role in a series of French-made ''Maud'' films in the 1910s. Biography Born in Brighton in 1882 as Emily Strahan Cager, the illegitimate daughter of domestic servant Emily Cager and raised in London, she arrived as a dancer in one of the first of Tiller Girls troupes to visit Paris at the time of the Exposition Universelle of 1900 and would never leave again. Her lively on-stage character and English accent while speaking French greatly amused audiences at the Folies Bergère. She adopted the stage name Aimée Campton and met the actor Charles Prince (real name Charles Ernest René Petitdemange) whom she married in Paris on 20 December 1900.
