Charles McIlroy
Charles Raymond "Chick" McIlroy (born August 1, 1938) is an American water polo player who competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics and in the 1964 Summer Olympics. He was born in Minot, North Dakota, and moved with his family to El Segundo, California when he was 1 years old. Charles was one of ten kids born to Kennith McIlroy and Helen (Vadnais) McIlroy. He was the fifth son of eight boys, having two sisters. McIlroy swam and played waterpolo at El Segundo High School for the legendary coach Uro Saari. after High School. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. The 1960 Summer Olympics ( it, Giochi Olimpici estivi del 1960), officially known as the Games of the XVII Olympiad ( it, Giochi della XVII Olimpiade) and commonly known as Rome 1960 ( it, Roma 1960), were an international multi-sport event held from 25 August to 11 September 1960 in Rome, Italy. Rome had previously been awarded the administration of the 1908 Summer Olympics, but following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906, the city had no choice but to decline and pass the honour to London. Minot ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Ward County, North Dakota, United States, in the state's north-central region.
