Charles Lees (colonial Administrator)
Sir Charles Cameron Lees (11 March 1837 – 26 July 1898) was a British military officer and colonial administrator. He was the son of John Campbell Lees, former Chief Justice of the Bahamas. He was originally commissioned into the 1st West India Regiment, but transferred to the 76th Foot in 1854, was promoted Lieutenant, and transferred to the 23rd Foot as adjutant in 1858. He resigned as adjutant in 1864 and retired in 1866, becoming adjutant of the 3rd Derbyshire Rifle Volunteers later that year. Lees was acting Governor of the Gold Coast in 1874, 1876 and 1878–79, Governor of the Bahamas from 1881 to 1884, and Governor of the Leeward Islands from 1884 to 1885. He was 16th Governor of Mauritius from 21 Dec 1889 to 12 Mar 1892 and was Governor of British Guiana from 1893 to 1895. Charles Lees (painter)
Charles Lees (1800–20 February 1880) was a Scottish portrait painter who specialised in sporting and recreational subjects. Life Lees was born in 1800 in Cupar, Fife, Scotland. He began his career in art training under the eminent Edinburgh portrait painter Sir Henry Raeburn. He went to Rome for six months, and on return spent the majority of his working life in Edinburgh, having his studio at 19 Scotland Street. Lees also taught drawing. In the 1830s ''Charles Lees, portrait painter'' is listed as living at 9 Elder Street in Edinburgh's New Town. He died in Edinburgh on 20 February 1880 and was buried with his wife Elizabeth Christie of Baberton, and their children, in Warriston Cemetery. The grave stands on the north side of the main east-west path in the upper section. Charlie Lees
Charlie Lees (1887-1976) was a rugby league player in the Australian competition - the NSWRFL. Playing career Lees played for the Eastern Suburbs club in the years (1911 to 1921). A forward, Lees was a member of Eastern Suburbs' first premiership winning sides in 1911 (in which he scored his side's only try), 1912 and 1913, and won City Cups with the club in 1914, 1915 and 1916. A solid defensive player, Lees was one of the earliest members to play 100 matches for the Eastern Suburbs club, playing 152 in total. Lees was Eastern Suburbs' sole try scorer in the match that brought the club its first premiership.Whiticker, Alan.
