Charles Law (British Politician)
The Honourable Charles Ewan Law QC (14 June 1792 – 13 August 1850), was a judge and Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. Background and education Law was the second son of Edward Law, 1st Baron Ellenborough, by Anne Towry, daughter of Captain George Philip Towry, of Shipley, Northumberland. Edward Law, 1st Earl of Ellenborough, was his elder brother. He was educated at St John's College, Cambridge, graduating M.A. in 1812. Legal and political career Law was returned to parliament as one of two representatives for Cambridge University in 1835, a seat he held until his death in 1850. He succeeded Newman Knowlys as Recorder of London in 1833 and was a Queen's Counsel. Family Law married Elizabeth Sophia (1789–1864), daughter of Sir Edward Nightingale, 10th Baronet, first on 8 May 1811 at Gretna Green, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, and again on 22 May 1811. Charles Towry-Law, 3rd Baron Ellenborough
Lieutenant Colonel Charles Edmund Towry-Law, 3rd Baron Ellenborough (17 November 1820 – 9 October 1890), was a member of the House of Lords. He was the oldest surviving son of the Hon. Charles Law QC who had 10 children. Law succeeded to the title on the death of his uncle, Edward Law, 1st Earl of Ellenborough, in 1871. He was educated at Winchester College and joined the British Army in 1844. He reached the rank of lieutenant colonel in the 6th Regiment of Foot. In 1885, Charles Law assumed, by royal licence, the additional surname of Towry. Family Law married four times: firstly in 1840 he married Lady Eleanor Cecil Howard (daughter of William Howard, 4th Earl of Wicklow, and Lady Cecil Hamilton), who died in 1852. Loftus Wigram
Loftus Tottenham Wigram QC (6 November 1803 – 19 September 1889) was a British barrister, businessman and Conservative politician. Life Wigram was a younger son of Lady Eleanor and Sir Robert Wigram, 1st Baronet. His numerous brothers included Sir Robert Fitzwygram, 2nd Baronet (1773–1843), a Director of the Bank of England and a Tory Member of Parliament who changed his name from Wigram to Fitzwygram, Sir James Wigram, a judge, Octavius Wigram, Joseph Cotton Wigram, Bishop of Rochester, and George Wigram. He was a part-owner of Wigram and Green, shipbuilders. In 1850, Wigram was returned to parliament as one of two representatives for Cambridge University, a seat he held until 1859. He was a regular contributor in the House of Commons, speaking 150 times during his nine-year stint in parliament.
