Charles Johnson (historian)
Charles Johnson, CBE, FBA, FSA, FRHistS (2 May 1870 – 5 November 1961) was an English historian and archivist. A graduate of Trinity College, Oxford, he worked in the Public Record Office from 1893 to 1930. There, he worked on classifying Chancery files and ancient miscellanea, and assisted with the publication of editions of the PRO's records. He also authored several editions of medieval documents, produced monographs, took part in the British Academy's effort to produce a dictionary of medieval Latin, and sat on several academic administration boards. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1951 and elected a fellow of the British Academy in 1934.H. C. Charles Johnson (North Carolina Politician)
Charles Johnson (died July 23, 1802) was a Congressional representative from North Carolina. Johnson was born in Scotland; engaged as a planter; elected to the Continental Congress in 1781, 1784, and 1785, but did not attend; served in the state senate in 1781–1784, 1788–1790, and 1792 (and as Speaker in 1789 after the death of Richard Caswell); elected as a Republican in a special election to the Seventh Congress (serving from March 4, 1801, until his death on July 23, 1802, in Bandon, near Edenton, North Carolina); interment in Edenton Cemetery. Biography Johnson served in the North Carolina Senate representing Chowan County, North Carolina, from 1781 to 1784 and from 1788 to 1792. Charley Lane Johnson (born November 22, 1938) is a former American football quarterback and retired professor of chemical engineering. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for 15 years with three teams: the St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Oilers, and Denver Broncos. College career A native of Big Spring, Texas, Johnson initially was set to play football with a scholarship at Schreiner Institute, but the school dropped football the season he arrived. He then transferred to New Mexico State University, but did so with a scholarship to play basketball instead and had to walk-on to play football there, though he eventually won the starting job at quarterback. The F/V ''Charles W'', also known as Annie J Larsen, is a historic fishing schooner anchored in Petersburg, Alaska. At the time of its retirement in 2000, it was the oldest fishing vessel in the fishing fleet of Southeast Alaska, and the only known wooden fishing vessel in the entire state still in active service. Launched in 1907, she was first used in the halibut fisheries of Puget Sound and the Bering Sea as the ''Annie J Larsen''. In 1925 she was purchased by the Alaska Glacier Seafood Company, refitted for shrimp trawling, and renamed ''Charles W'' in honor of owner Karl Sifferman's father. The company was one of the pioneers of the local shrimp fishery, a business it began to phase out due to increasing competition in the 1970s. The ''Charles W'' was the last of the company's fleet of ships, which numbered twelve at its height. The boat was acquired in 2002 by the nonprofit Friends of the ''Charles W''. Charles Phillip Johnson (January 18, 1836 - May 21, 1920) was an American politician and attorney who served as Missouri lieutenant governor from 1873 until 1875. Biography Johnson was born in Lebanon, Illinois on January 18, 1836. His maternal grandparents were from Virginia. His mother was born in Mississippi River island community of Kaskaskia, Illinois. His father was born in Philadelphia. He briefly attended McKendree College. Johnson had been a newspaper editor for two years before he took up the study of law. Four years later he became city attorney in St. Louis. Johnson had helped organize Missouri troops for the Union cause during the Civil War. Charles Fletcher Johnson (February 14, 1859 – February 15, 1930) was a United States senator from Maine and a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Johnson was nominated by President Woodrow Wilson on October 1, 1917, to a seat vacated by William LeBaron Putnam. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on October 1, 1917, and received commission the same day. Assumed senior status on April 30, 1929. Johnson's service was terminated on February 15, 1930, due to death.
