Charles Jacot-Guillarmod
Charles Jacot-Guillarmod was a Swiss topographer and geographer. He was born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1868 and he died in Noiraigue in 1925. Biography Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, he lived in Vevey with his parents before he went to Zurich studying to become a surveying engineer at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, where he graduated in 1890. He worked at the Federal topographical Office from 1890 to 1914. Rapidly recognised for a new way of rock presentation, he contributed to the establishment of the Topographical Atlas of Switzerland (the so-called Siegfried map). In 1914, he established two topographical maps of K2 and Kangchenjunga based on photographs taken mainly by his cousin, the physician and mountaineer Jules Jacot Guillarmod. These were the first accurate maps ever made of these two mountains. They were printed by Kümmerly & Frey, Bern and published by the Bulletin of the geographical society of Neuchatel in 1925. Kangchenjunga, also spelled Kanchenjunga, Kanchanjanghā (), and Khangchendzonga, is the third highest mountain in the world. Its summit lies at in a section of the Himalayas, the ''Kangchenjunga Himal'', which is bounded in the west by the Tamur River, in the north by the Lhonak River and Jongsang La, and in the east by the Teesta River. It lies in the border region between Nepal and Sikkim state of India, with three of the five peaks, namely Main, Central and South, directly on the border, and the peaks West and Kangbachen in Nepal's Taplejung District. Until 1852, Kangchenjunga was assumed to be the highest mountain in the world, but calculations and measurements by the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India in 1849 showed that Mount Everest, known as Peak XV at the time, is actually higher. Mount Olympus (; el, Όλυμπος, Ólympos, also , ) is the highest mountain in Greece. It is part of the Olympus massif near the Thermaic Gulf of the Aegean Sea, located in the Olympus Range on the border between Thessaly and Macedonia, between the regional units of Larissa and Pieria, about southwest from Thessaloniki. Dents Du Midi
The Dents du Midi (French language, French: "teeth of noon") are a three-kilometre-long mountain range in the Chablais Alps in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. Overlooking the Val d'Illiez and the Rhône valley to the south, they face the Lac de Salanfe, an artificial reservoir, and are part of the geological ensemble of the Giffre massif. Their seven peaks are, from north-east to south-west: the Cime de l'Est, the Forteresse, the Cathédrale, the Éperon, the Dent Jaune, the Doigts and the Haute Cime. They are mainly composed of limestone rock, with gritty limestone rock in the upper parts. Chasseral
The Chasseral is a mountain of the Jura Mountains, overlooking Lake Biel in the Swiss canton of Bern. With an elevation of 1,606 metres above sea level, the Chasseral is the highest summit in the canton of Bern outside the Alps. It is also both the northernmost and easternmost mountain reaching over 1,500 metres in the Jura Mountains. West of the summit is located the Chasseral Ouest (1,552 m), where runs the border with the canton of Neuchâtel. The Chasseral Pass is located further on the west. The Chasseral is the fourth most topographically isolated mountain of Switzerland, although it is the first when considering only easily accessible summits.
